Co. Cork

Updated 1 July 1999

Submitted by Moira Forde and posted here with her kind permission.

In "The History of the County and City of Cork" by Rev. C.B. Gibson, M.R.I.A., volume 2 (of 2), published by Thomas C. Newby, London, 1861, (and on loan from the University of Durham Library), there are the names of the Protestants who raised troops into militia and volunteer corps in support of the king in 1778, and to oppose the Society of United Irishmen. This is a list of those who organised the raising of the militia. Later the names of those who volunteered and details of the units.

For Genealogy purposes the lists of names may be helpful to those with Protestant ancestry in Co. Cork.
