IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN the first day of June Ano Dom 1613 I JOHN SMITH the elder of Upton in the parish of St Peter the Apostle in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Husbandman not ..... in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be to God do make and ordain this my present Testament containing this my last Will in manner and format following
Item I bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Maker Redeemer and Saviour And my body to be buried in the Churchyard of the parish aforesaid
Item I will and bequeath to the .............. of the said Parish of St Peter aforesaid seven shillings and four pence to be paid to the churchwardens of the said parish within six months next after my decease by my executors hereinafter named and appointed
Item I give and bequeath to the poor people of the same the sum of fifteen shillings to be distributed among such said people in most need at the discretion of my said executors within three months next after my decease
Item I will unto Joanne my wife all such household stuffs as she brought unto me at our marriage And also all my Corn now growing upon the lands belonging to the tenement within I now dwell And all my Cattle ........................ for ever
Item I will unto Joanne my wife the rest of all such household stuffs ...................................... goods before the time of our marriage for and during the term of her natural life
Item I will unto Joanne Slayten the daughter of Thomas Slayten my sonne in law my ...... and my ...... to be delivered to her immediately after the decease of the said Joanne my wife
Item I give to Avis Slayten the daughter of the said Thomas Slayten my ......... and my ........... to be delivered to her immediately after the decease of the said Joanne my wife
Item I give Margaret Tomson the daughter of Lewes Tomson my sonne in law my little ......... and my brass ........ to be delivered to her immediately after the decease of the said Joanne my wife Item I give unto Avis my dughter now wife unto the said Thomas Slayten my brass pot to be delivered unto her at the time aforesaid
Item I will and bequeath all the residue of my household stuffs to be equally distributed to and among my sonnes and daughters now living and to the said Lewes Tomson immediately after the decease of the said Joanne my wife
Item I will unto Thomas Smyth my sonne ...... bed and ........ I now lie upon and one blanket and one sheet after the decease of the said Joane my wife
Item I will ..... Barley ..... and now lying in and upon one Acre of land lying at Bromstone and called ....... aforesaid equally to be divided between the said Thomas Smyth and Symon Smyth my sonne immediately after my decease
Item I will and bequeath .............................. said sonne Thomas Smyth is to pay .................to be equally divided between my four sonnes Thomas Symon Michael and John Smyth my sonnes equally to be divided between them immediately after my debts ............. and funeral expenses be fully discharged and paid

Item I give and bequeath unto the said John my sonne all my lands lying at Chilbank Butts (?) in the parish beforesaid immediately after my decease in fee simple paying out of the same to my said ..................the full sum of five Pounds of lawful money of England within two years next after my decease
Item I will and bequeath to my Godsons Thomas Tomson and to Edward Reid and William Underdown my Godsons to any of them and to be paid to every of them within two years and a quarter of a year after my decease And to all other my Godchildren to every of them .......named at the time aforesaid
Item I will and bequeath to my four daughters Joan Avis Agnes and Martha my daughters to every of them Ten shillings at the time aforesaid
Item I give and bequeath ........ said Thomas Smyth and the said Lewes Tomson the Executors of this my last Will to be the same in all points fulfilled and performed according to the true meaning.
