gunn

I am a descendent of Reuben Gunn, who immigrated to America in the late 1700's.  Reuben lived most of his life in Dickson County, TN, but his descendents are spread far and wide.  Gunn cousins that I have connected with over the last few years have shared with me pictures of their families.

Using many of the dates that I knew, I was able to create a timeline for the Gunns.

I have written a short history of my Reuben Gunn line, tracing them from North Carolina to Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas.

Reuben Gunn was living in Dickson County, Tennessee at the time of the War of 1812.  Three of his sons fought in that war, including my g-g-g-g-grandfather, Abisha Gunn.

My great great grandfather, Johnathan Gunn, fought in the Civil War, as a member of the 40th Mississippi Regiment.  The 40th Regiment fought in the Vicksburg Campaign, and the memorial park at Vicksburg has a monument to honor these soldiers.  Through the National Archives, I was able to obtain copies of Johnathan's Civil War service records

My great grandfather, Columbus Gunn, moved from Mississippi to Arkansas circa 1915.  There are still Gunns living in the same small town where he lived, and where he is buried, in Old Carlisle Cemetery.

Reuben's great grandson, Albert Jackson Gunn, lived most of his life in Texas.  One of my Gunn cousins has graciously supplied photos of some of the Gunn headstones in Hopkins County, Texas.

Reuben lived his entire adult life in Scott County, Mississippi.  He received a land grant there in October of 1859 through the Government Land Office.  Reuben's land was located in north Scott County, at the Leake County Line.
