James Sharp James was the 4th child of Edward Sharp and his wife. He was born May 4, 1740 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is believed that James was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and served under General Sumper, in South Carolina. James and Margaret Cunningham Fitten were married in 1783 in Mecklenburg County. James was reported to be indifferent to religion, but he provided for his family well, including both

his own children and his step children, Margaret having been married once before marrying James. The Sharps were among many families that moved around 1800 to Greene County, Georgia. Records in Greene County show that James purchased a tract of land from George Parks on May 15, 1815. On Dec. 13, 1823 James sold this tract of land for $700, and also sold an additional 135 acres. Shortly thereafter James moved to an unknown west Georgia county, and it was in this new location that James died in 1830. |
