G A B R I E L H A M I L T O N
Gabriel,first son of Andrew Hamilton of Westburn, and heir, lived during Cromwell's usurpations and the reign of Charles the
Second. He was one of the Committee of War for the County of Lanark in
the year 1648. After the Restoration he underwent much persecution
because of his religious opinions, and in 1662 was fined by the Earl
of Middleton in the sum of 1000 Scots. He died sep 1669 as appears
from his will, registered 7 jul 1670.
He married Margaret Cunninghame, daughter of the Knight of Gilbertfield,
and had the following children:
1. Gabriel, his heir
2. Archibald, who succeeded his brother
3. James,
4. Anne, who died unmarried in feb 1674
5. Elizabeth, who married James Hamilton of Newton
6. Daughter, who married Lang of Overtoun
