James Hamilton of Torrance, eldest son of
James of Torrance, had a
charter "to James Hamilton of Torrance and Christian Stewart, his
spouse, of the lands of Braehead, the lands of Croce, and the half
of the lands of Browstersland, in the county of Lanark, " dated 12 jun 1540; also
another charter of the church lands of Torrance, dated 13 feb 1545.
He married Christian Stewart, a daughter of Stewart of Minto.
