He was educated through 8th grade about 1870 in Rock Springs (Abelman), Sauk Co, WI.56 Heman may have become the new teacher in the school. He was living about 1883 in Dodge City, Ford Co, KS.56 He homesteaded in Kansas and reportedly met Wyatt Earp, et al. He was living about 1885 in Hartsel, Park Co, CO.56 "Heman lived on a cattle ranch at the southern end of South Park, about 30 miles south of Hartsel, CO. Gerald Owens and his parents visited the abandoned ranch site in the early 1950's. Joe Rogers owned the ranch. All that was left of it was a chared ranch home and a blacksmith shop with a huge anvil in it." The ranch was north of Salida, CO. Tintype photographs show Heman at Manitou Springs, CO. Ir is also reported that he spent a short time in the state of Washington before he return east. His brother, Levi Benson, met him in Kasson, Minnesota about 1893 on his way back to Wisconsin. In 1895 he was a farmer in Ironton, Sauk Co, WI.79 He was living about 1901 in Marion TWP, Olmsted Co, MN.56 About 1901 Heman and Anna's house burned down. They moved to rural Rochester to start over and raise their family. He died on 11 Nov 1948 in Rochester, Olmsted Co, MN.80 He was buried on 13 Nov 1948 in Rochester, Olmsted Co, MN. Oakwood Cemetery, Sec 5 Lot 126. He has Photo ID of B525H01A.38 Heman had hernia surgery at age 90. He would always go out to "work off" his pain by chopping wood etc. After surgery, and while in the hospital, he would keep getting out of bed. Parents: James L. BENSON and Louisa Ann MARTIN.
