INÉS CAMACHO ALBUM SECTION I
Introduction and Plates 1-4

The Photo album

of

Inés Camacho Vernaza de Vallejo

Inés Camacho de Vallejo

Inés Camacho de Vallejo was born in Calí, Colombia around 1845. She was the daughter of Dr. Manuel Dolores Camacho Ulloa and Trinidad Vernaza Prieto. Inés died February 8, 1933 in Calí.

Manuel and Trinidad were married June 5, 1839. Manuel Dolores Camacho was secretary to Hilario López, president of the ancient sovereign state of Cauca. Manuel signed the Constitution of the Sovereign State of Cauca as a representative of Calí and was governor of the state of Cauca in 1850.

Inés Camacho de Vallejo's photo album, as presented here, was removed from the house of Luisa Vallejo de Preciado, daughter of Inés during a robbery. The thieves discovering it was only a photo album discarded it as worthless, tossing it into a pasture near the house during their escape. When it was later recovered, rain water had damaged the album binding. The album was passed on in the family after the death of Luisa Vallejo and is now is in the hands of a descendant living in Houston, Texas. The album pages are loose from the album binding and there is no assurance of the page sequence only that they all came from the album of Inés Camacho de Vallejo. The photos are CDV style [Carte de Visite] or photos cut and mounted to fit the CDV format with few exceptions. Interdispersed amongst the family photos are generic scenes such as the Virgin Mary, famous paintings or celebrities, etc. Most of photos seem to have come from the period 1850-1880s. Some photos are taken by photography shops, some are photos cut out and glued to a CDV backing. A couple of photos are tintype and a couple are standard photos. The photos have been scanned and adjusted for levels and contrast/brightness etc. using Adobe Photoshop. Clarity of identifying the person in each photo and not producing perfectly the original shades of each plate accurately was the adjustment criterion. Generic scenes in CDV style in the album were not scanned if that page didn't hold a family photo.

Album Cover

Plate 1
Unidentified Children + Joaquina Lopez
[title is an error we would not suspect "Joaquina" to have a mustache - for (probably) a picture of Joaquina see plate 4]

Plate 2
Not scanned - no photos only a title "Calí viejo"

Plate 3
Rafael Peña + Joaquina López
Note: Rafael Peña was the second husband of Martina Rebolledo who married Estanislao Zadwadsky therefore the stepfather in law of Inés' sister Zoila's daughter Luisa Colmenares.
Note: the relationship of Joaquina López to Inés Camacho is not known.

Plate 4
Jorge Flétcher + No picture but a title: Luisa Vallejo de Preciado
Note: On the back of the photo is Writter "Para mi comadrita Inez CPB - George Fletcher Bogatá 21 Junio 64"
Note: A "Celina Fléctcher" married Ines' brother Rafael Camacho. Research shows a family in Cuidad Panamá
which shows so many similarities to the people in this album that it is probably the family of Celina. The father was
variously listed as George, Jorge, Yorge and Jorges, born in 1820 who married to Teresa Plize y Ortiz in 1843.
George and Teresa had the following children: María Celiina (b.1859), Carlos Antonio (b.1854) and Jorges (b.1856)
from the pictures if the connnection is correctit is supposed that the photos of the various Flétcher family members in
the album are children of George and Teresa and therefore brothers in law of Inés.

Note: Luisa Vallejo Camacho, a daughter of Inés, married Jesús Preciado
