In the Name of God Amen the tenth day of August in the seven & Twentyeth yeare of the Raigne of our Sovraigne Lord Charles the second by the Grace of God Kinge of England Scotland France & Ireland Defender of the faith etc Anno Dom 1675 I Rose Sale of Brasted in the County of Kent widdowe being aged & weake in body but of sound & pífect minde & memory praised be God doe make & ordaine this to be my last will & testamít in manner & forme following (that is to say) First & principally I commend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping & assured by beleiveing in & through the merritts death & passion of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to obteyne pardon for all my sins & a joyfull resurrection in the Kingdom of heven And my body I comitt to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried att the didcretion of my Executor hereafter named And as concerning that temporall estate it hath pleased God to bestowe on me in this world I dispose thereof in manner following (that is to say)

Impriís I give devise & bequeath unto Thomas Sale my sonne all that my peece or pícell of land called Bearehame With the appurtenances conteyneing two acres more or lesse lyeing in Eatonbridge in the aforesíd County of Kent & now in the occupacon of the said Thomas Sale or of his assignees to have and to hold the said pícell of land with the appurteníces unto the said Thomas Sale and to his heirs and assignees for ever (during the term of his natural life Ö then to my grandchild William Sale one of the sons of John Sale my son deceased Ö for ever)

Item I give devise & bequeath unto John Sale my grandchild one (other) of the sonns of (the said) John Sale my sonne deceased all that my messuage or tenemít att Bellmans Greene with the barnes outhouses & two pícells of land thereunto belongeing called Stony Crofts conteyneing by estimacon two acres more or lesse with all & singular their hereditamíts & appítences situate lyeing & being in the píishe of Eatonbridge aforesíd and now in the occupacon of John Parker or of his assignees To have & to hold the said messuage or tenemít & premisses with the appítences unto my said Grandchild John Sale and to his heirs & assignees for ever uppon this condicon following (that is to say)

Whereas my husband formerly lent unto my sonne John Sale deceased the sum of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England and tooke his bond for repaymít thereof and at his request I gave him in the said bond freely wíthout paying any píte of the said mony and alsoe gave him a noate under my hand for receipt of the sd mony wích noate was writ & made by Michaell Cronke of Hever in the County aforesíd blacksmyth and the executors or adminírs of my said sonne John Sale as I am informed doe threaten to bring an action uppon the said noate made by the said Michaell Cronke agít my executor And if the executor or adminír of the said John Sale my sonne or the said John (and Wm) Sale my grandchild(en) or any other píson or písons whatsoever doe sue molest or trouble my executor hereafter named uppon or for or by reason of the said noate or writeing made by the síd Michaell Cronke then my wish is and I doe hereby declare my guifte & bequest of the aforesíd messuage or tenemít at Belmans Greene & the lands & appítences thereunto belongeing (& of the said pícell of land called Bearham) hereby bequeathed to my grandchild(en) John Sale (& Wm Sale) shall sease & be void And from & ymediately after any action or suite either at Law or equity shall be commenced uppon the said noate Then I will give and bequeath the said messuage & Lands att Bellmans Greene with the appítences (& the said pícell of land called Bearham) unto my sonne Thomas Sale and to his heirs and assignees for ever

Item I give devise & bequeath unto my said sonne Thomas Sale All that my messuage or tenemít barnes orchards gardens severall p'cells of lands hereafter píticulerly Named (that is to say) Fower peeces or pícells of land called or knowne by the name or names of Southlands conteyneing by estimacon eleaven acres more or lesse lyeing & being in Eatonbridge aforesíd and now in the occupacon of William Streatfeild or of his assignees And two other pícells of land called Churchwayes conteyneing by estimacon five acres more or lesse situate in Eatonbridge aforesaid and now or late in the occupacon of my said sonne Thomas Sale or of his assignees And one other peece or pícell of called Brockett feild conteyneing by estimacon two acres more or lesse lyeing att Medhurst Rowe in Eatonbridge aforesaid & now in the occupacon of my said sonne Thomas Sale or of his assignees To have & to hold the said messuage Lands & premisses unto my said sonne Thomas Sale for & during the terme of his naturall life and after his decease To hold the said premisses unto my daughter in lawe Anne now the wife of my said sonne Thomas Sale for & during soe longe tyme as she shall keepe herselfe a widdowe

Item after the decease of my sonne Thomas Sale and Anne his wife or after the intermarriage of the said Anne I give devise & bequeath the said messuage wherein my sonne Thomas Sale dwelleth with the appítences and the said lands called Southlands Churchwayes & Brockett feild with their appítences unto the six daughters of my said sonne Thomas Sale (that is to say) unto Rose Mary Anne Elizabeth Sarah & Susan Sale and to all the rest of the children either sonnes or daughters lawfully begotten or to be begotten of my said sonne Thomas Sale which he shall leave behind him att the tyme of his decease To hold to them & to their heirs & assignees for ever equally to be divided between them

Item I give devise & bequeath unto the said Thomas Sale my sonne one acre of meaddowe lying in Little Boads meade? in Eatonbridge aforesaid to hold unto my said sonne Thomas Sale during the terme of his naturall life And after his decease I give & devise the said acre of meaddow in Little Boads meade unto the eldest sonne of the body of the said Thomas lawfully begotten or to be begotten if he the said Thomas happen to have any sonne att the tyme of his decease & to the heirs males of the body of such eldest sonne & their heirs for ever And for want of such issue Then to the second (third or fourth) sonne & every other sonne of the body of the said Thomas Sale lawfully to be begotten & to the heirs males of the body of such second third & fourth sonne & every other sonne of the body of the said Thomas Sale the eldest always to be preferred first & before the youngest as they shall be in seniority & priority of birth And if my sonne Thomas Sale happen to dye without issue male of his body lawfully begotten Then I give & devise the said acre of meaddow in Boads meade unto all the daughters of my said sonne Thomas Sale & to their heirs for ever equally to be divided betweene them in such manner as is before expressed

Item I give & bequeath unto my sonne in Lawe Robert Whistler who marryed one of my daughters Mary Sale deceased the sume of one shilling to be payed unto him by my executor within one month next after my decease
Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter in lawe Anne Perryn formerly the wife of John Sale my sonne deceased & now the wife of Thomas Perryn the sume of one shilling to be payed unto her by my executor within one month next after my decease
Item I give to my grandchild Rose Sale one of the daughters of my sonne Thomas Sale one greate bible
Item I give unto my sonne Thomas Sale one chest in my owne keepping

And after my debts legacyes & funerall rights & expences and the chardges of proving of this my will are payed & dischardged then I will give & bequeath unto my three children Thomas Hannah & Rose & unto my two grand daughters Mary & Anne the two daughters of my sonne John Sale deceased all my goods chattells household stuffe ready mony & debts whatsoever to be equally divided between them by my overseers hereafter named within two months next after my decease And my will & meaneing is that if either or any of my children doe att any tyme hereafter clayme or make any demand of my Executor for any guifts or legacies from or concerning their Grandfather Thomas Medhurst deceased then my will & meaneing is that he she or they that maketh any such demand shall loose & repay the whole legacye given to him her or them in & by this my last will

Item I make & ordayne Thomas Sale my sonne my full & sole Executor of this my last Will & testament and for his paynes & trouble therein I give to him the sume of five pounds of lawfull mony of England And I doe desyor my Loveing freinds Thomas Birsby? the elder of Hever Gent.? and Edward Walter of Brasted aforesaid yoman to be Overseers of this my last Will & Testament and I give to each of them five shillings a peece for their paynes In Witness whereof the said Rose Sale have to this my last Will & testamít conteyneing three sheetes of paper sett my hand & seale to every sheete thereof the day & yeare first above written
