PCC Wills Index

Kent wills at the PCC between 1721-1734

NOTE: The PRO has now indexed all the PCC wills and the index is available online at the web site below. Will images can be downloaded for a charge.

The records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC) are held at the Public Record Office.   They are also available on film at LDS Family History Centres.   This was the principal court for the whole of southern England and Wales.   Many people from Kent had wills proved at this court.

There are calendars for each year, with entries arranged by the initial letter of the surname only.   Usually, the county is given and those for Kent have been selected for this index.   If an entry is not found, the county may not have been given or may have been missed, so it is worth a further search. This index is intended as a finding aid only.

This index includes surname, forename, year, month, folio number and a comment field. Some final digits of the folio numbers have been lost in the binding. In this case the approximate number is followed by a question mark. The comment field may contain the following items:

  1. 1721-1727  A-K
  2. 1721-1727  L-Z
  3. 1728-1734  A-K
  4. 1728-1734  L-Z
To obtain a copy of the registered will at a Family History Centre use the year and folio to determine the required film number. Wills from 1721 to 1734 are covered by films 0092543 - 0092631, i.e.89 films.
