In the name of God Amen the sixteenth day of August in the yeare of Our Lord God one thousand and six hundred & fifty and seven I John Jewell of Chelsfield in the County of Kent yeoman being aged and weake in body but in good and perfect remembrance praised be God therefore doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following That is to say first and principally I commend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker steadfastly trusting to have forgiveness of all my sins through the only merritts death and passion of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer and my body to the earth from whence it came decently to be buried

Item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Chelsfield aforesaid the summe of ten shillings to be distributed amongst them on the day of my burial by my executor hereinafter named

Item I give and bequeath unto John Jewell of Marden in the parish of Godstone in Surrey my son the summe of one shilling to be paid him within three months next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Jewell of Chelsfield in the County of Kent my son the summe of Thirty pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid him within four months after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Charlewood my grandchild the wife of William Charlewood the daughter of Richard Jewell my son the summe of Twenty pounds of good and lawfull money of England and one Featherbed and one Joyne bedstedle and all belonging to it to be paid her within six months after my decease or when shee shal be foure and twenty yeares of age

Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Jewell my grandchild the daughter of Richard Jewell my son the summe of Twenty pounds of good and lawfull money of England and two Featherbeds and one Joyne bedstedle and all belonging to it to be paid her within six months after my decease or when shee shal be foure and twenty yeares of age

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Jewell my grandchild the daughter of Richard Jewell my son the summe of Twenty pounds of good and lawfull money of England and one Featherbed and one Joyne bedstedle and all belonging to it to be paid her within six months after my decease or when shee shal be foure and twenty yeares of age

And my minde and meaning is that if any of the three last named legatees do happen to die before the daies of payment and leaving no children behind them that then the portion of herse dying shalbe equally divided between the survivors and the executor. And will is that Richard Jewell my son shall have the use and occupation of all my goods and money untill the severall dayes of payment And then hee his heires executors and Administrators or asseignes to give accompt and to paie the remainder to my executor hereinafter named

Item all my goods household stuffe the money for my stocke of ___ that my son John had at Marden and all other money whatsoever due unto me unbequeathed I give and bequeath unto Richard Jewell my grandchild the son of Richard Jewell my son whom I make my whole executor of this my last will and testament And I do intreat my loving friends Robert Leake of Craydon in the County of Surrey Polterer and Timothy Mainard of Seale in the County of Kent yeoman to be overseers of this my last will and testament And I do give them for their paines in it three shillings and foure pence a peece

In witnes whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written John Jewell sealed signed in the presence of The marke of Alexander AY Young, the marke of Thomas Plomer

This will was proved at London the Five and Twentieth of October one thousand six hundred fifty eight before the Judges for probate of wills and granting Administrations lawfully Authorized by the oath of Richard Jewell the grandchild sole executor to whom was committed Administration hee being first sworne truly to administer.
