In the name of God Amen, I John Denne, Doctor in Divinity, Archdeacon of the Oath Archdeaconry of Rochester being of sound and prefect disposing mind, memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. First and principally I commend my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping for a joyful resurrection through the merits death and mediation of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer. My body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred by my Executors hereinafter named according as such divisions as I shall leave ? under my own hand for that purpose.

And I do hereby make name constitute and appoint my beloved wife Susannah Denne and my sons John Denne and Samuel Denne First Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
And as concerning the disposition of such temporal estate which it shall please God to leave me with at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath the same as followeth,

I give and devise all and singular my lands messuages or tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever with the appertuances which I shall be possessed of at the time of my decease (or shall be entitled unto in ? ? or ? contingent under a certain part of settlement made upon the marriage of my said son John Denne or about the twenty first day April which was in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty five or otherwise howsoever if subject to my Disposition by will) unto my said beloved wife Susannah Denne she committing no manner of waste or spoil shown for and during the term of her natural life if she shall so long continue my widow sole and unmarried.

Also after payment of my debts, funeral expenses, the legacy hereinafter mentioned and the necessary charges concerning the execution of this my will I do hereby order and direct my said Executors to put and place out the surplus of what ready moneys I shall have at the time of my decease in the stocks or public funds on Government or other security as they my said Executors shall think fit to give as conveniently may be and I do hereby will and direct the same to be applied and go with my other personal estate in manner following (that is to say)
In the first place I give and bequeath to my sister Mrs Hester Denne spinster the legacy or sum of fifty pounds to be paid to her by my said Executors within six months next after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife Susannah Denne all and singular the interest dividends or income of all my moneys in the stocks or public funds on Government or other security which now are or shall be so placed out as aforesaid and also the first use of all and singular my jewels, household(?) goods furniture and ? of household whatsoever except my books which I give to my said two sons equally to be divided between them unto my said wife Susannah Denne for and during the term of her natural life if she shall so long continue my widow sole and unmarried charged and chargeable nevertheless with the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds to be ? out of my said real and personal estates above mentioned to ? out my daughter Susannah Denne in marriage provided she marrieth with the app…ation(?) of my said wife and I do hereby authorise my said Executors so to ? and advance the same nothing(?) doubling(?) but that in the meantime my said wife out of the natural love and affection which she bears to my daughter will sufficiently and humbly provide my said daughter in board and apparel

and from and immediately after my said wife’s decease I give devise and bequeath all and singular the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said two sons John Denne and Samuel Denne and to their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns subject nevertheless and to stand charged and chargeable with the payment of one annuity or yearly sum of fifty pounds clear of all taxes and deductions (….iam..iary) or otherwise to my said daughter Susannah Denne so long as continues single by four own quarterly payments the first payment to begin and to be made on the first ? quarter day for payment of rent which shall happen next after my decease with this provision(?) notwithstanding that in case my said daughter shall happen to marry ? shall be in the power of my said sons and Executors or the survivor of them or survivors executors or assigns of such survivor whom I do hereby authorise to discharge the said annuity and in lieu thereof to raise out of my said real and personal estate the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds towards a house for my said daughter in marriage to be settled on her by advice of council or otherwise as they my said sons and Executors or the survivor of them shall think fit and I do hereby charge my said real and personal estate with the payment of the same as aforesaid and moreover it is my express will meaning and intent that from and immediately after my said wife’s decease or marriage again my said two sons and daughter shall have equally benefited out of all my estate to be real and personal.

I do hereby will order and direct that a ? is made of the whole of my real and personal estate and that which I have already settled upon my said son John Denne and what I have hereby willed devised and bequeathed to my daughter in case of her marriage or the annuity so long as she lives single shall be accounted and ? upon an ? so that my said son Samuel Denne may have an equal share of my said estates both real and personal to the value of one full third part of the whole. And I do hereby discharge and empower my said two sons and daughter or the survivor of them to sell and dispose of such part or parts of my estates ? real or personal which may be necessary to adjust the ? shown them pursuant to the ? intent and meaning of this my last Will and Testament and it is my further will and meaning that if either or any of my said sons and daughter shall happen to die without issue shall the part share or interest of either or any of them in my said real and personal estate ? them by this my will (so dying as aforesaid) shall go to the survivors and survivor of them.

And lastly I hereby revoke all former wills and testaments by me made declaring this to be my last Will and Testament contained in three sheets of paper. In witness whereof I have to each sheet set my hand and seal dated the twenty seventh day of November in the thirty third(?) year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine. John Denne. Signed sealed published and declared by the said Doctor John Denne as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of each other and in the presence and at the request of the said Testator.

This will was proved at London on the seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty seven before the Right Worshipful George Day(?) Doctor of Laws, Master Keeper or Commissary of the Perogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oaths of Susannah Denne widow the relict of the deceased and the Reverend John Denne and Samuel Denne Clerks the sons of the said deceased and Executors named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased they having been first sworn by commission duly to administer.
