In the Name of God Amen I William Deane of Saint Mary Cray yeoman being at this time weak and infirm in Body but of Sound and disposing Mind Memory and understanding thanks be given to Almighty God for the same considering the uncertainty of my continuance in this abode Do make and Ordaine this my last Will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I resign my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it trusting for Salvation thereof only by and through the precious blood and Mercy of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and redeemer and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors herein after named and as for such worldly Estate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow in this world I give will and dispose thereof in manner and form following (that is to say) Imprimis I do order and direct that all my Debts funeral expenses and the charges of the proving of this my Will shall be first paid satisfied and discharged

Item I give and devise unto My Son Thomas Deane and the heirs of his body all that my Messuage or Tenement farm Lands hereditiments and premises with the appurtenances situate and being at Hockenden in the parish of Saint Mary Cray aforesaid and in the tenure or occupation of William Harris? or his Assignes to hold the said Messuage or tenement farm Lands hereditaments and premises with the Appurtenances unto my said Son Thomas Deane and the heirs of his Body lawfully begotten forever And for want of such issue I give and devise the aforesaid Messuage farm Lands Hereditaments and premises with the Appurtenances unto my two Sons William Deane and Edmund Deane and unto my Daughter Ann Deane and their heirs and Assignes for ever as owners in common and not as joynt Tenants

Item I give and bequeath all and singular my Goods Chattells ready Money Money at interest Stock and all other my personal Estate whatsoever (except my Linnen) unto my worthy friend Mr Edward Holt of Downe in the County of Kent Gentleman whom I do make Trustee and Overseer of this my Will during his Life only and not his heirs Executors Administrators or Assignes Nevertheless my Trust and Confidence in him reposed is , and my aforesaid Gift and bequest to him is upon this Special Trust that he the said Edward Holt shall and do from and immediately after my decease sell and dispose of all and singular my household Goods Cattell and Stock aforesaid for the best price that can be got for the same and the Money therefrom arising together with all and singular my other Moneys whatsoever shall and do Employ and Dispose of in such manner and form as in this my Will is herein after mentioned Appointed and Declared (that is to say)

Item I give and appoint to be paid to my said Son Thomas Deane the full suum of forty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain at his age of five and Twenty Years And I will and appoint that the interest of the said suum of fforty pounds shall in the mean time be applied and paid to him my said Son Thomas by my said Trustee and Overseer towards his Maintenance And if my said Son Thomas Deane shall depart this life before the said summ of fforty pounds shall become payable to him as aforesaid Then I will order and direct that the same shall be paid to and amongst my two Sons William Deane and Edmund Deane and my Daughter Ann Deane when they shall attain their several ages of five and Twenty years share and share alike

Item I further give Will Order and appoint unto my said Son Thomas Deane and unto my said Sons William Deane and Edmund Deane and unto each of them one Gold Ring now being in my Dwelling house to be delivered to them by my said Trustee and Overseer immediately after my decease

Item I give will order and appoint unto my said Daughter Anne Deane my Silver Salt and also my five Silver Spoons to be delivered to her by my said Trustee and Overseer immediately after my decease

Item I give and bequeeth unto my said Trustee and Overseer Edward Holt for his part in the execution of the Trust aforesaid and to wear in remembrance of me one Gold Ring of the value of ffifteen shillings

Item I further give and bequeath unto and amongst all my said Children Thomas, William, Edmund and Anne all my Linnen of what kind soever equally to be divided between them share and share alike

Item I further give and appoint to be paid unto my said Sons William Deane and Edmund Deane at their several ages of five and Twenty years and also unto my Daughter Anne Deane at her age of four and Twenty Years All the rest residue and remainder of my Moneys and personal Estate whatsoever not herein before by me given and disposed of equally to be divided between them share and share alike by my said Trustee and Overseer and the Interest and Dividend therof I will and appoint shall in the mean time be paid to them by my said Trustee and Overseer for their maintenance and Education equally share and share alike And if either of my said Sons William Deane and Edmund Deane or Daughter Anne Deane shall depart this life before the Legacy or Legacys aforesaid shall become payable to the as aforesaid then my will and mind is that the Legacy or Legacys of him her or they so dying shall be equally paid to and amongst the Survivors and Surviver of them their Executors and Administators share and share alike And my will and meaning further is that if my said Trustee and Overseer Edward Holt shall happen to lose any Money now put out or hereafter by him to be put out at interest by virtue of this my Will that then he shall not be lyable to make good the same unless it be his Willful neglect or default And further my Will and meaning is that if it shall happen that any of the Money herein before given to my Children as aforesaid or any of them shall at any time be paid into the hands of my said Trustee and Overseer Edward Holt that the my said Children Thomas, William, Edmund and Anne shall equally bear the loss of the Interest of such summ so lying dead in proportion according to their several Legacys herein before given them until such time as the said Edward Holt shall put the same out again at interest upon good security which I desire and request he will do as soon as possible he can

Item I do hereby further Order direct and desire the said Edward Holt with some part of the Money so given to the said Edmund Deane to plant him my said Son Edmund out to some convenient Trade as soon after my decease as conveniently he can And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Sons Thomas Deane and William Deane Executors of this my Last Will and Testament desiring them to do nothing in the execution thereof without the consent of the said Edward Holt and to be entirely guided by his discretion and advice therein And I do hereby revoke all former Wills whatsoever by me at any time heretofore made and do ratify and confirm this to be my last Will and Testament only In witness whereof I the said William Deane the Testator have to every sheet of this my last Will and Testament continued in three sheets of paper set my hand and Seal this Eighteenth Day of October Anno Domi one Thousand Seven Hundred and twenty three William Deane

Signed Sealed & Published and declared by the said William Deane the Testator as and for his last Will & Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed our Hands as Witnesses thereunto these words being first interlined in the first sheet during his life only and not his heirs Executors Administrators or Assignes.
