Will of Thomas Cramp

This is the Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Cramp of the parish of Saint Peter the Apostle in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Yeoman I being of sound and disposing mind and memory

First I give and bequeath to my son John Cramp the sum of ten pounds
and to my son Richard Cramp the sum of fifteen pounds to be respectively paid in two months after my decease

and I give and bequeath unto my sons Martin Cramp and Thomas Cramp the sum of one hundred pounds apiece to each of them to be paid within one year after my decease

and as for and concerning all the residue and remainder of my Monies and all my Securities for money plate linnen Stock Crop and all other my Effects Goods Chattels and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore bequeathed (after my just debts and funeral Charges shall be thereout paid) I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my son Peter Cramp his Executors and Administrators
But upon this condition that he or they shall and do find and provide unto and for my youngest son Aaron Martin Cramp good and sufficient meat drink apparel washing lodging and all other necessaries whatsoever together with proper and suitable education from and after my decease until he my said son Aaron Martin Cramp shall attain his age of fourteen years if he shall so long live

and I give and devise to and to the use of my friends Elijah Mockett and Robert Gore of the aforesaid parish of Saint Peter Yeoman and their heirs and assigns all that my undivided Moiety or half part of and in all that messuage or tenement with the Malthouse Barn Stable Outhouses Buildings Yards Garden Orchard and Lands thereunto belonging and therewith used or enjoyed with their and every of their appurtenances situate and being at or near Hayne in the parish of Saint Laurence in the said Isle of Thanet and late in the tenure or Occupation of my late father in law Thomas May deceased by whose last Will and Testament the said Moiety was devised to me but upon the following Trusts hereby in them reposed (that is to say)

upon the trust that they the said Elijah Mockett and Robert Gore and the Survivor of them his heirs or assigns shall and do pay all the Rents of the said Moiety as the same shall become due and be received (all just allowances for repairs and otherwise being thereout made) from and after my decease until my said youngest son shall attain his said age of fourteen years unto my said son Peter Cramp his executors or Administrators in consideration of his of their bringing up and educating my said youngest son until his said age of fourteen years as aforesaid

And upon this farther Trust that they the said Elijah Mockett and Robert Gore and the survivor of them and the heirs or assigns of such survivor shall and do when my said youngest son Aaron Martin Cramp shall attain the aforesaid age of fourteen years by Mortgage of the said Moiety or some part thereof raise any such sum of money not exceeding in the whole the sum of fifty pounds as shall be necessary to be paid with my said son Aaron Martin Cramp on binding him an apprentice to such Trade or Employment as he shall make choice of with the approbation of the Guardians of his person hereinafter named whom I desire to advise him in such choice

and upon this further trust that they the said Trustees shall and do pay and apply the Rents and profits of my said Moiety as they shall from time to time receive and get in the same (after all just allowances and deductions) for and towards providing apparel and other necessaries for my said Son Aaron Martin Cramp until he shall the age of twenty one years

and in case the same Rents and profits shall not prove sufficient for that purpose then my Will is that my said trustees shall and may by Mortgage of the said Moiety raise such further sum and sums of Money as with the said rents shall be proper for that purpose but my Will is that no more than the sum of five pounds over and above such Rents shall be so expended in any one year

and when my said Son Aaron Martin Cramp shall attain the said age of twenty one years then upon Trust that they my said Trustees shall and do convey and assure the said Moiety with the appurtenances unto and to the use of my said Son Aaron Martin Cramp his heirs and assigns free from all further Trusts

and my Will is that the Receipt or Receipts of my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his heirs or assigns shall at all times be a Sufficient Discharge for such Mortgage Monies as they shall receive by or upon Mortgage of the said Moiety or any part thereof pursuant to this my Will and that the person or persons advancing such monies shall not be answerable or accountable for any loss Misapplication of non application thereof or of any part thereof and that it shall be lawful for my said Trustees to retain to themselves out of the Monies that shall come to their hands by Virtue of this my Will all such losses Costs Charges and expenses as they shall respectively sustain pay or be put in or about the Execution of the several Trusts aforesaid and that they shall not be answerable for any more Monies than they shall respectively actually receive nor for any loss or damage that may happen without their respective Wilful default nor one of them for the other nor for the acts Receipts or defaults of the other

and I do appoint Mr. Edward Daniel of Ramsgate Surgeon and my said sons Martin and Thomas guardians of the person of my said son Aaron Martin Cramp and do give one Guinea apiece to the said Edward Daniel Elijah Mockett and Robert Gore notwithstanding any thing herein conntained to the contrary

and I do appoint my said Son Peter Cramp sole Executor of this my last Will and testament and do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made

In Witness thereof I have set my hand and Seal to each of these two sheets of paper (which together contain my Will) this twenty first day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty four and in the fourth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King George the Third Thomas Cramp Signed and Sealed by the Testator Thomas Cramp and by him published and declared as and for the last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have below subscribed our Names in his presence

This Will was proved at London the twenty seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine before the Worshipful Francis Simpson Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful George Hay Doctor of Laws Master keeper or Commissary of the prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully Constituted by the oath of Peter Cramp the son of the deceased and sole Executor named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and Singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased having been first sworn duly to administer.
