Being sound of Mind In the Name of God
I John Cooke junior Esq of Swifts in the parish of Cranbrook in the County of Kent make this my last will and testament

Item I leave my dear wife Bridget Kennet the house at Swifts land plate furniture and all that belongs to me for ever I also bequeath to her to do what she pleases with it

witness my hand and seal the 2nd day of May 1774

Appeared personally Thomas Thompson of the parish of St Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex Mercer and Charlott Augusta Thompson (wife of the said Thomas Thompson) of the same place and being sworn on the Holy Evangelists to depose the truth made oath as follows

that they knew and were acquainted with John Cooke the younger late of Abbeville in the Province of Picardy in the Kingdom of France Esquire deceased and with his manner and character of handwriting and subscription having seen him write and subscribe his name and now viewing and carefully perusing the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be and containing the last will and testament of him the said deceased beginning “being of sound mind In the Name of God I John Cooke junior Esq of Swifts in the parish of Cranbrook in the County of Kent make this my last will and testament” and ending “witness my hand and seal the 2nd day of May 1774” and thus subscribed John Cooke junior they these deponents do severally say that they verily and in their consciences believe the whole series and contents of the said paper writing as well the handwriting as the subscription thereto to be all of the proper handwriting of the said deceased

the said Thomas Thompson and Charlott Augusta Thompson were duly sworn before me Chris Simpson Surrogate

On the 2nd of October 1775 administration with the will annexed of all and singular the goods chattels & credits of John Cooke the younger late of Abbeville in the Province of Picardy in the Kingdom of France Esquire deceased was granted to Bridget Cooke formerly Kennet widow, the Relict of the said deceased and universal legatee named in the said will for that no Executor is named therein she having been first sworn duly to administer
