Will of Henry Buggs

of Meopham, Kent

This is the last Will and Testament of me Henry Buggs of Meopham in the County of Kent Victualler

I direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expences shall be paid as soon as may be after my decease
I give to my dear wife so much of my household furniture and plate linen and china as she may select not exceeding in a valuation which I direct to be made thereof the sum of forty pounds

I give and devise all my freehold estate which I purchased of William Truncheon situate in Meopham aforesaid unto my said dear wife for the term of her life
and after her decease I give and devise the same unto my son James Buggs his heirs and assigns for ever

I also give and devise my freehold estate consisting of a Wheelwright’s shop and premises now in the occupation of my said son James and also all that building used as a Club room and the Granary attached and all my part estate and interest in two Cottages situate at Meopham Green and in the occupation of Wm Ashenden and Richard Mungeann unto my said son James his heirs and assigns for ever

I give and bequeath unto my said son James all my stock in trade and effects in and about my business as a Victualler and businesses as a Dealer in Corn and Coals
and also all the residue of my household furniture plate linen and china unto my said son James for his own use and benefit

And whereas I have lent to Samuel Townsend the husband of my daughter Mary Ann for which I hold his Promissory note three hundred and fifty pounds now I hereby direct that my Executors shall release and discharge him from the payment thereof and give up the said Note to be cancelled

I give to my daughter Elizabeth Buggs the sum of three hundred and fifty pounds and direct the same to be paid to her when she may attain the age of twenty one years and I direct that my Executors shall pay and apply the annual income thereof for her benefit until the principal sum become payable

and as to all the Residue of my Estate and Effects whatsoever and of what nature or kind whatsoever I direct that my Executors shall pay and apply the income thereof unto and for the benefit of my dear Wife for her life and on her decease I give the sum of two hundred pounds to my daughter Ann Townsend for her own use and benefit

And I give the sum of two hundred pounds to my daughter Elizabeth for her own use and benefit to be payable out of my said residuary estate and all the rest of such residuary estate and effects I give to my said son James for his own use and benefit

And I hereby appoint my said dear wife and my said son James Executrix and Executor of this my Will

In witness whereof I have to this and the preceding sheet set my hand this twenty second day of December 1846 _ The mark and X signature of the Testator Henry Buggs

Proved at London 18 February 1847 to Harriet Buggs the relict and James Buggs the son
