In the name of God Amen I John Bates of Sutton Valence in the County of Kent Bricklayer being weak in body but (praised be God) of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following

First I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Bates all and singular my working implements of every sort and kind my ladders Cyder Mill and Press my Writing Desk and Tea Chest

Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann wife of James Bates of Sittingbourne in Kent aforesaid half my household furniture not herein before given and bequeathed.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Grandson John Bates one guinea

Also I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Robert Luffe, my granddaughter Mary Luffe and my granddaughter Ann Luffe the sum of one guinea each

Also I give and bequeath unto my grandson Thomas Bromley my granddaughter Elizabeth Bromley and my granddaughter Sarah Bromley the sum of one guinea each

Also after the payment of my just debts Funeral expences the legacies herein before given (which I order and direct to be paid by my executor hereinafter named as soon as he conveniently can after my decease) and the probation of this my last will I give and bequeath all and every the rest residue and remainer of the ready money debts and securities for money goods chattels and effects (not herein before given and bequeathed) unto my said son Thomas Bates And I do hereby nominate make constitute and appoint my said son Thomas Bates full and sole executor of this my last Will

And lastly I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and I do declare this only to be and contain my whole and entire last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said John Bates (the testator) to this my last will and testament contained in this one sheet of paper have set my hand and seal this Twenty fifth day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and ninety one - John Bates his mark Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator John Bates as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto

The before Registered Will of John Bates deceased was proved the thirtieth Day of April 1792 before the Reverend Joshua Dix Clerk Surrogate to the Worshipful Sir William Scott Knight Doctor of Laws Official General to the Reverend the Archdeacon of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Thomas Bates the son of the testator and sole executor named in the said will He being first sworn duly to perform the same
