I John Bassett the older of Edenbridge in the County of Kent Yeoman being aged and fayling expecting my dissolution but being sound and perfect of mind and memory praise be to God do make my last Will in manner following (that is to say)
first I recommend my Soul to God who gave it and my body I commit to the earth to be reverently buryed in the parish church or chapel of Edenbridge in the part before the door of the row or seat wherein I have usually sat
Item I give to the poor of the parish of Edenbridge the sum of twenty shillings of lawful money of Great Britain to be distributed amongst them by my Executor within twelve months next after my decease

Item I give unto my eldest son Michael and to my three daughters Sarah Ann and Katherine several sums of five shillings a piece to be paid unto them severally by my Executor within twelve months next after my decease if lawfully demanded

And lastly all my Goods Chattels Ready money at Interest Bills Bonds Legacies And personal estate whatsoever I give and devise and bequeath unto John Bassett my younger son throughout paying my Debts Legacies and Funeral charges and I make him full whole and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament

In whereof I the said John Bassett the Older Testator revoking all forms of Wills by me void have hereunto set my hand and seal the third day of September Anno Dmi one thousand Seven hundred and twenty and four. John Bassett (signature) Signed Seal Published and declared by the said Testator John Bassett the older to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribe our names as Witnesses hereto in his presence
