Each "folio" is in a file jacket containing as few as one sheet, or as many as 100 sheets [estimated]. Some files deal with an isolated fact, and contain only a query by JER to a source. Most files contain folios of information on at least one generation, and frequently four or more generations. Each ancestor has a folio, and each child who married & had children has a separate folio, with this multiplicity of folios growing with each generation. Each folio has notes attached, chronicling JER's efforts and results. The notation "4 generations" is based on a cursory examination of the file, and the presence of at least one folio in the numbered generation. This listing is designed to display the variety and wide range of information collected by JER, and suggest possible resources for RANSOM family researchers.
A notation such as "see 111.111.1" usually refers to a specific folio in the other part of JER's work, the 373 Henry-System numbered files & folios of the known descendants of Robert RANSOM of Plymouth and Matthew RANSOM of Saybrook.
