64. John [?Emory?] RANSOM died about 1794 in at sea - sailing ship.

Found in newspaper [Boston Transcript 24 Feb 1904] Genealogy department:

(#6983) 2. RANSOM, BUTTON, SANDERS. Firmly held family tradition says that John RANSOM of Providence RI was born at Liverpool, England; that his mother's maiden name was Elizabeth SANDERS (the tradition of English birth is not credited); that he married Betsy (Elizabeth?) BUTTON; that said John RANSOM owned and sailed a ship in the tea trade and was lost at sea when his son, John Eliakim, was about ten years old. A faint tradition says that John and Betsy had also a son Augustus or Augustine. The given names introduced by John's descendants to the RANSOM record for the first time are Eliakim, Giles, Tamer and Sarrany, the latter perhaps a corruption of Sarah Ann.
John Eliakim RANSOM married Amea AMES at Avon, Livingston Co NY in 1805.
Competent search has been made, of shipping lists at Providence, and no trace of John is found there.
Can any reader give me any clew [sic] to the marriage of John and Betsy or the birth or parentage of either of them? --J.E.R [John E RANSOM, Buffalo NY]

65. Betsey BUTTON.²⁴⁰ Betsey BUTTON allegedly married [2] Mr BABCOCK, after 1784, and lived in Providence RI. Other, conflicting stories suggest she and John RANSOM came from or lived at Providence.Children were:

	ii.	Augustus or Augustine RANSOM was born about 1785.
