16. Sandrus RANSOM was born on 30 Aug 1825 in Claridon Twp, Geauga, Ohio.²⁴⁰ He appeared in the census on 7 Aug 1830 in Concord, Leroy twp, Geauga, Ohio [now Lake Co].²⁴¹ He appeared in the census on 1 Jun 1840 in Avon Twp, Livingston, New York.
1840 census: age 14, probably one of the two 10-15yo boys with mother and Zebulon RATHBONE in Avon, NY; could also be with sister Elizabeth MINKLER in Vermillion Twp, Erie, Ohio [see Harvey MINKLER].
He died on 23 Oct 1849 in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio.
Joan RANSOM reports she found this date [23 Oct 1849] on the back of a photo of a gravestone, purported to be that of Sandrus RANSOM in Peake's Cemetery. The photo belongs to Flossie Rediger, who says it is her father's handwriting. He [Clarence A RANSOM] died in 1955. Later attempts to read and photograph the stone show no readable information.

If he died on 23 October 1849, he should have appeared on the 1850 census mortality shedule, but does not. He is not on the 1850 census, where his wife and children appear only.

If he died in October 1849, this is after the last reported death from cholera in the great plague of July 1849 in Sandusky.
He was buried in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio - Peakes Cemetery.²⁴²
I have photographs of what is alleged to be his headstone, taken in 1990 and also prior to 1955; neither is readable.
