Daniel W RANSOM of DELAVAN Wisconsin, sent a copy of his family information about Asa⁷ Green RANSOM 1823-1883, born to Asa⁶ RANSOM [1781-1828] and Hannah GREEN. This latter Asa is the sixth son of Thomas⁵ RANSOM [1738-1828], and a brother of Cyrus RANSOM who married Sarah FULHAM (see RR #4, pp 92-98). Thomas⁵ is argued to be a son of Joshua⁴ (Robert³, Joshua², Robert¹).

The typescript includes several photographs: the LYNES cemetery & house, Cooperstown NY; portraits of Asa Green RANSOM & wife Martha HUBBELL, Cyrus RANSOM, Hannah GREEN RANSOM LYNES, and the family of Asa RANSOM. There is a map, showing the 1873 location of the Asa G RANSOM farm in Rock Co WI, along with a reprint of his bio item, in "Biographical Sketches of a few of the old settlers of Rock County", Plat Book of 1873, p 105. There are sixty pages of typescript reprint of the diary of Asa Green RANSOM, covering 1876 & 1877.

The heart of this work is 21 pages listing twelve generations of descendants, mainly focused on the children, etc of Asa RANSOM & Hannah GREEN. The Henry numbering system is used. The listings are only birth, death, marriage & children; no addresses or biographical info are given.

From the introduction, by Gloria RANSOM [p 1]:

All the information from Robert¹ to Asa RANSOM was given to me by Ruth JONES. It was given to her by Hattie Van ALLEN. All of these records were copied by Percy L MILLER 4 April 1954. Hannah GREEN RANSOM, widow of the late Asa RANSOM, married [2] Anthony LYNES, whose grandson Percy MILLER sent Hattie Van ALLEN all of the RANSOM history with some pictures. "The rest of this genealogy was compiled by Gloria RANSOM 1988." This is Gloria Ellen SANNES, 1925-, m Vernon Wenford RANSOM, a great-grandson of Asa Green RANSOM. Many of these descendants are buried in the RANSOM plot at Emerald Grove WI.

There are several pages of abbreviated charts, showing three branches from Robert¹ [and listing him as a brother of Peter]. The Saybrook Branch lists Matthew b 1661 and Samuel as sons of Robert¹. The Lakenham Branch jumps to Captain Samuel⁴ RANSOM, with only Sybil & Lyvia STEPHENS as descendants. The Colchester Branch chart follows only Joshua², Robert³, Newton⁴, Calvin⁵, Guy⁶, to Zerah⁷ m Julius HALL.

Five pages of text repeat some other errors and assumptions of old Ransom genealogies ("Hannah/Susannah/Abigail"; "Danish stock"; "Robert¹/Matthew²"). There is biographical information about Lauretta Melissa RANSOM, who married the noted writer James JAFFRAY, and her brother Giles RANSOM, all of Belvidere IL.
