Not sure that this is death record for this Thomas. Record of death for Elizabeth may be incorrect as the parish record only states Widow Moulds, pauper, buried. Thomas is the son of Thomas and Mary (Askew) Mold.

Note: shown in militia records of 1777 The spelling of William and Joseph’s names and occupations indicates a degree of illiteracy on the part of the recorder in the militia records.
All information on the militia was researched by Ms. Anna Smart.
Further information from Susan Comont confirms Joseph and William were brothers and children of Joseph and Sarah (Askew) Mold of Wood Newton. Joseph’s marriage to Mary Dixon was witnessed by James Dixon (Father?) and Robert King. All facts available to date indicate that this is the Joseph who married Susanna Langley. It should be noted that the marriage register indicates that they were ‘both of this parish’ but this only seems to mean that they were residing in Apethorpe at the time of their marriage not necessarily that they were born there (and this applies to several other marriages recorded here)

Could this be the second marriage of Susanna, mother of John and Edward? May have been the reason for the move from Brigstock to Apethorpe. If Joseph was also a widower and this his second marriage then he would be the uncle of Ann Moulds. It is apparent from the research carried out by Susan Comont that the surname is spelt in several ways and seems to change with generations. It seems to be almost certain that Joseph is the Josef above (married to Mary Dixon) and whose parents were Joseph and Sarah Mold. By the time he married Susanna he had moved from Wood Newton to Apethorpe the name has mutated through Mold,Moles to Mould! Mormon records show MOULD, MOULDS as well as MOLD surname spellings. Mrs Duncan of Family Research Systems provided a copy of their wedding from the Apethorpe register but it does not show whether Susanna was a spinster or widow. Witnesses to their marriage were Matthew Cox and Henry Loddam. Susan Comont concurs that the dates fit for both Susanna Langley and Joseph Mould, therefore it will be assumed that it IS the second marriage for both.

ELIZABETH MOULDS, age 80 or born/ baptised 10 June 1759, of Wood Newton, shown in 1841 census as living in Southwick perhaps with Thomas SCOTNEY and family. Elizabeth may have been related to Ann Moulds (who married Edward Langley) and Thomas Scotney who was the father of Jane married to Thomas Langley. NOTE:. William is shown in the militia records of 1777, see note under Joseph (his brother above). In the marriage register he is shown as of Wittering but this may have been where he was working at the time of marriage. Wittering is approx. 4 miles north of Apethorpe. If he was born in Wood Newton then he is the son of Joseph and Sarah Mold. There is no indication of any other William in Wood Newton being married to anyone, and Anne is the only Anne recorded in either parish.

He may also be a descendant of Moulds of Apethorpe as the records available at the moment only cover maariages from 1754 - 1812 and baptisms from 1774 to 1812.

HENRY JOHN b.09 Apr1829*
l. Apethorpe d.
The above is from the 1841 census for Apethorpe. Henry may have died prior to 1851 census as there is no trace of the family in the 1851 census but Margaretta may also be MARIA of the 1851 census for Nassington and now married to Richard Reeve both recorded as 46 years old and with stepson HENRY Mould, 21 born Apethorpe, printer living with them.

Note : Information above is from 1841 census for Wood Newton. No trace of this family in the 1851 census. Charles is son of John and Ann MouldS of Wood Newton. Not sure why Maria and Jane are shown in the 1841 census with the surname added rather than the usual do. John is probably the John Mould of Wood Newton, shown in the 1851 census for Cotterstock, age 22, o. Groom working at Cotterstock Hall. This family seem to have vanished by the 1851 census.

Note -John is probably son of Henry and Mary Moulds. Above information from 1851 and 1861 census for Wood Newton. 1851 census records this family without the S but 1861 adds it. In 1851 they were living at #65 Wood Newton. Robert Mould, age 15, Shoemakers apprentice , listed as nephew was staying with the family. Also Mary Elizabeth Tamil? age 5 ,drapers daughter, of Oundle. Georginia is recorded in the 1861 census for Oundle as a house servant born in Wood Newton. Recorded in 1881 census as Jno, age 64. From Simmons eldest son’s name spelling it is assumed that John is Simmons elder brother. Occupation shown in Kelly’s Directory of 1855 and confirmed in 1861 census. Census also records that Frederick Davey Mould, Grandson, was staying and was born in Hipstock, Lec (Leic?) - note the S appears to have been dropped after this generation. Harriet recorded in 1861 census in Oundle as a house servant but gave her birthplace as Wood Newton so it is probable she belongs to this family

Note: Matthew is probably the son of Mathew and Mary Ann of Kings Cliffe. Emma Moulds is shown in 1861 census for Tansor as staying with Thomas and Mary Baxter and recorded as niece. The above family seems the most likely although the added S is confusing. 1851 census for Apethorpe confirms EMMA MOULD as born to this family. They were living at #35, Oundle Road.
