Witnesses, Silas a Webb of Oswego Co., NY and Philander Rose of Cayuga Co., NYThe Northampton residence has caused confusion until I saw Ira Rose's War of 1812 Claims affidavit, and saw the Haldemon, (which Christine did not have listed in her Rose files) and which should have been Haldimand and Northampton should have been Northumberland Co. There is not a Northampton Co. today, October 2000, and the only Northampton City is in New Brunswick, Canada. Therefore, in June 15, 1855, Ira ROSE was living in Haldimand, Northumberland Co., Ontario, Canada.

MN Hist Soc.sent the following information: I am enclosing a listing from the original tract entries, but the first entry I found at the recorder's office was one concerning back taxes but did not mention the ROSE name. In 1857, Ira Rose purchased 2 acres of river land in section 28. The land in section 24 and land in section 28 is mentioned in transaction filed in 1869. Transactions are often filed years after they occur.Chatfield was the land office before Mower Co., MN had its own elected officers.I also checked the 1857 MN census which is arranged by legal description of twp and Ira's land was on the twp. line; I also checked the adjoining twp. but did not find Ira. However, according to your info. Ira was already gone as the census was taken in Oct. 1857.Ira's house was probably a wooden shack or maybe a small cabin. In 1857, people were just starting to arrive in the county. I am enclosing a small sketch on John. W. Rose who came in 1856 and arrived about 5 miles north of Ira Rose. Very truly yours,Monica Lonergan.

D. 111 Inf.His age could be a mistake, because there was a Philander Rose in the 1880 Sodus Census, with wife, Mary. I did not find a will or probate file for Philander, but there is a will and probate file for Mary. In her will, whe leaves everything to her daughter, Eunice Bayless, and Mrs. Rose Plummer (Eunice's daughter, I believe), Augustus Rose and Ruby Rose. Other documents mention possible heirs of Frederick Rose and Mary Enigh or her heirs. Thought to be in Canada. If you wish copies, let me know. Fee will be $10.00 minimum charge, plus copies. 48. Sweeting, Hallie, Historian, 876 State St., Sterling, NY 13156, A copy of the following newspaper story was sent by Hallie Sweeting;Fred Rose, the man for whose arrest a Warrant was issued last November, was apprehended in Cato, by Deputy United Staes Marshall Bennett, of Weedsport last week and brought to Auburn for examination upon charge of violating the government excise law. The prisoner is accused of selling liquor without a license upon a boat house on Cross Lake in September last. He was taken before United States Commissioner Adams, and his case was adjourned until next Tuesday. "The Register 23 April 1896" (Presumably the Fair Haven Register, N.R.)If Frederick Rose died with Peter Lyon in a storm in 1888 and if the 1896 date is correct, then this is not our Frederick Rose. I am going to check the Fair Haven newspaper next trip to Albany, NY (N.R. 6/7/2000). On June 6, 2000, on the 11th floor, Special Collections, Albany Archives, NY, I viewed Auburn, NY, Prison Records, B0067, Registers of male inmates received 1870-1953. that were handwritten in about a 30 lb. ledger book for the years Oct. 1, 1877 through 1891. Frederick Rose, son of Philander, was not listed.

Two major events occurred early this century. One was "The Great War'' -- also known as World War I -- and the other was the Spanish Flu. US Army training camps became death camps with 80% death rate among camps. The Spanish Flu, a pandemic disease in 1918-1920, affected 20 percent of the world's population, killing far more than the war did. It immobilized the armed forces, with more than 60 percent of the deaths in the U.S. Army in 1918 being attributed to the flu. Official estimates of flu deaths worldwide are 27 million. The total number of WWI deaths is estimated to be at least six million, but probably is higher.Charles Augusta Rose had been superintendent of construction in the building industry in New York City. Augusta and her son, Charles Ira Rose, went back to Perry to live.
