My
father
was
Edward
Moulds
born
in
Sheffield
Uk
on
30th
April
1912
at
27
Cromford
Street,
Sheffield
2.
He
had
one
sister
Edna.
He
was
born
out
of
wedlock
hence
retained
his
mothers
name
of
Moulds.
She was Sarah Ann Moulds, she is listed on birth certificate as a silver burnisher. I know her family were 'little mesters' a term used for small businesses in Sheffield at that time and they made scissors etc.
His
father
was
Thomas
Harrison
-
I
am
still
looking
into
that
side
of
the
family.
Sarah's
father
was
James/John
Moulds,
on
some
census
reports
it
states
Mold,
some
Mould
and
Moulds
also
Moules.
The names where written phonetically on the census.
James
is
listed
as
John
Moules
at
27
Cromford
Street,
Sheffield
2
in
1910
so
I
know
this
is
my
great
grandfather.
He is listed as scissor smith. He married Kate Emily.
In
1926
the
Trades
Directories
list
Kate
Emily
at
that
address
so
John
must
have
died
between
1910
and
1926.
The
1851
Census
shows
James
as
an
11month
old
living
with
his
brother
William
aged
2
and
his
mother
and
father
George
aged
23
and
Eliza
aged
24.
They lived with a family called Briggs as lodgers at the back court of 91 Allen Street, Sheffield (old back to back houses) Occupation of George was scissor smith. Later the family moved to 159 Charles Street, Sheffield St Paul's Parish- this was the place where the 'little mesters' worked right in the centre of Sheffield.
I
have
information
further
back
but
need
to
prove
a
marriage
link
before
putting
it
up
as
definite.
I would love to hear from anyone who has any of my relatives in their family tree.
Regards
