Gaye Cook's Mould Family
Ann Mould b. 29 Apr1807
Ann Mould was baptised on 29 Apr. 1807 at St. Leonard on Sea, Sussex. She had a brother George, but no further information on her family is yet available. Ann married David Waters (later Watters) at St. Leonards Hastings, Ssx on 6 Dec 1834. In 1837, Ann migrated to Australia with her husband aboard the Augusta Jessie.
Colonial records of this ship show; David Waters 30, "agriculturist in general excepting the Plough at which he has occasionally been employed" and "also a quarrier", his wife Ann 27, Sarah 16 (niece), Maria, daughter aged 6 (actually niece) and David Nichols Waters, 1 year and 6 months. They are described as a "well-disposed couple". The Augusta Jessie left Portsmouth on 14 June 1837, and arrived Sydney 11 Oct. 1837 and disembarked emigrants on 14 Oct. 1837. David was given as being Episcopalian and could read and write. The niece, Sarah, mentioned above is believed to the Sarah Waters, daughter of Davids brother James, already in Australia serving his sentence. The child, Maria, mentioned was Maria Mould, niece of Davids wife, Ann, daughter of her brother George Mould and his wife Maria. David and Ann settled in the Maitland area, no doubt because this was where James, his convict brother, was assigned. Shipping documents show David as "going to his brother on the Hunter River" although no name was given. Here they had 4 more children and also appear to have fostered/boarded a 5th. David was granted two lots of 52 acres at Buttai which he and Ann farmed. They built there home at Oakvale and their original house still stands. David died 23 May 1877 on his farm at Oakvale of senile decay. He is buried at the Church of England burial ground in East Maitland. Ann lived until 11 Mar 1886 when she too succumbed to senile decay while still living at Oakvale.
Maria Ann Mould was born 1 Aug 1830 in England to Geroge and
Maria Ann Mould. In Australia she married George Long on 13 May
1844 in Maitland, NSW, and they had 7 children. Maria died in
1884 in Boggabai, NSW.
