The majority of my ancestors were in Iowa by the mid to late 1850's, and were in America by the 1600 and 1700's. Most of my father's ancestors followed a northern route (i.e. PA, OH, IL, IA) while most of my mother's ancestors followed a southern route (i.e. VA, TN, IN, IL, IA).
The one line I would like to develop further is my primary line - MORRISON. I have only been able to trace my MORRISON line to my gg grandfather, Joseph, who was born in Ireland circa 1815 and was in Allegheny Co., PA by 1850 and single. He next shows up in Wapello Co., IA in the 1856 special census with a wife (Elizabeth Forsyth) and son, my g grandfather, John Thomas. Major surnames I am researching for my side are ---
Paternal - MORRISON, BAKER, BUCK, CARR, CRANER, CRAVEN, DEMPSEY, DIXON, ELDER, FINNEY, FORSYTH(E), FULTON, GREGG, GUTHRIE, HOLLINGSWORTH, IDDINGS, LINKSWEILER, MALIN, McKINNIS, MOOTS, REE, SIDWELL, TATE, THARP, WARNER, WYNNE/WYNN/WINN
Maternal - ACHENBACH, BAILEY, BLACK, BLAKELY, CHITWOOD, CHURCHWELL, DODD, FARR, FREY, FUNK, HALM, JARRETT, KEY, KNOX, LEEPER, LUTTRELL, ROBERTSON, SCHAMPER, SCHMIDT, SAXTON/SEXTON, WASCHENBACH, WIRTH
My wife's lines have been more difficult to document. They were much more recent immigrants - coming to this country in the 1880's. Her paternal g grandparents immigrated from Sweden and her maternal g grandparents immigrated from Germany. I finally took the plunge and started researching European records via LDS microfilm records. I started with Swedish records and researched my wife's paternal lines. Additionally, a new found Swedish internet friend, Rolf Björklund, shared his vast research and provided an immense boost. Also, Ardis' cousins, Christer and Kristina Andersson and Staffan Tronestam, from Sweden have added much information regarding her Andersson/Dahlstrom ancestors. I also researched German records and found her g grandmother in Helmhof, Baden and her g grandfather in Massenbachhausen, Württemberg. Again internet friends gave me an immense boost - Manfred Hochwarth from Germany, provided me information from his Hochwarth family research and David Haines from Australia provided me information from his Zimmermann family research.
Her surnames include - ANDERSSON, COGHLAN, DAHLSTROM, GRUND, HOCHWARTH, JONES, McKAY, SCHWARTZ/SWARTZ, WATERHOUSE, WHAN, ZIMMERMAN
If you find something of interest, or connections to your lines, please write. I look forward to trading information and meeting new cousins.
