10. Joseph Lemay Sexton
Joseph Lemay Sexton was born Abt. 1824 in Cabell County, (West) Virginia, and died 8 September 1879 in Lincoln County, West Virginia. He married Lucinda Adaline Black, daughter of James Cockburn Black (nephew of Elizabeth Black Saxton) and Lucy Eliza Mary Jane Brown, 19 March 1847 in Cabell County, (West) Virginia. She was born 20 February 1831, and died 19 November 1889.
Joseph first appears in Cabell County marriage records. Joseph and Lucinda Black were married by Hezekiah Adkins 19 March 1847 (Cabell County Marriages Book 1, page 81). This family next shows in various West Virginia censuses:

Lucinda is living close to the James Cockburn Black family (11 families between them).
Nothing stated to this point is concrete evidence that Joseph is part of this family. At this point proximity and opportunity based on fit with the 1830 census is our only "evidence".
1830 Cabell census, page 032:
2 males of 5 years and under 10 (Joseph and Abraham)
1 male of 10 years and under 15 (Jacob)
1 male of 15 years and under 20 (Adam)
3 males of 20 years and under 30 (Andrew, John, James)
1 female of 10 years and under 15 (Elizabeth)
1 female of 40 years and under 50 (Elizabeth)
and by this time Catherine and William, Jr. are out of the house and on their own.
Joseph will be carried with this family until proven otherwise.
