2.  John N. Sexton

John N. Sexton was born 9 December 1802 in Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia, and died between 1880 - 1900 in Cabell County, (West) Virginia. He married Louisa Ann Woods between 1840-1843.  She was born Abt. 1820 in Virginia, and died 30 December 1848 in Cabell County, (West) Virginia.

John appears as head of household in the 1840 Cabell County census (page 019).

John appears in early Cabell records, by name and by inference.  John appeared in the Cabell County Personal Property Tax rolls once he attained the age of 16 years, as did all able bodied men who reached the age of 16.  The following except begins with 1820:

In 1821 William Saxton shows 3 males over age of 16 years, then by 1823 there is only himself in the household over 16 years and another William and a John Saxton appear on the scene.

This clarifies the second William who appeared on the scene in 1823, and seems to further link these three individuals.

Thus we know that William Sr. was still alive on 7 March 1826, but by February 1827 was no longer on the scene.  In fact, land records in Lawrence County, Ohio show William Sr. to still be alive on 29 August 1826.  Since the 1827 Land Book shows his 100 acres in William Saxton's estate, one has to conclude it is likely he died in late 1826.  The 2 males above 16 in John's household more than likely represent John and Andrew, as Andrew would have attained the age of 16 in October 1826.

In 1830 John and Andrew purchase 50 acres of land on Fudges Creek, Cabell County (Cabell County Deed Book 4, page 600).  As John lived out his life in Cabell County, he bought and sold other real estate, including 130 acres on the left fork of Fudges Creek he held until 1844 when he sold it to Jacob Sexton (Cabell County Deed Book 8, page 552).  There is a gravestone in Maupin Cemetery in Ona, Cabell County with the name "Louisa Ann, wife of John Sexton" and with footstone that has "LAS" engraved.  Her marker is broken and the birth date is hidden because it is buried in concrete.  Her grave is near those of two sons, Henry and Horatio.
