|In 1950 the first Richard Hill family reunion was held at Droop Mt. State Park. The Park was selected as a permanent meeting place for future reunions. Richard Hill and his bride, Nancy McNeel, a daughter of Pioneer John McNeel, settled west of Hillsboro on Hill's Creek. Rough, native-carved stones mark their resting places on a hill overlooking Hill's Creek. The Cemetery and Creek, both named for Richard Hill can be seen from an overlook in the Park, therefore, it is an appropriate meeting place for the Hill descendants to visit with one another each year.|
|The oldest member present at that first meeting was Joseph Hill, Summersville, WV. Beverly Ann Hill of Hillsboro, was the youngest. The one travelling the greatest distance was Henry Hill of Alhambra, CA. Oldest married couple was Mr. & Mrs. Walter Burr, Renick, WV. Largest family, Mr. & Mrs. Gilbert Boggs of Hillsboro. Officers elected for this Reunion and each year in the month of August the Hill families get together at the Park located near the first Hill settlement. These reunions have grown in numbers as well as in the quality of entertainment, food and good fellowship. There have been records kept at these reunions and I am sure many of the people who attend can add much which I have left out of these pages of Hill records. I have had limited material and knowledge to compile these pages and have hoped to record here what I can and others may add to it in their own way. BJE|
