Pvt. William Henry Lowe, Co. H, 1st (Ramsey's) Georgia Regiment died of illness in Morgan County, West Virginia on January 6 1862. At the time of his death, he was being cared for in the home of old Mrs. Shockley, and after his death she had his body buried in nearby Oakland Methodist Church Cemetery. His grave is marked by a small stone erected by some local people.
William Henry Lowe enlisted in the Confederate Army for 12 months on July 24 1861 at Dahlonega, County seat of Lumpkin County, Georgia.
After Pvt. Lowe's death, his father, Jacob, of New Bridge, Lumpkin County Georgia, filed a claim on March 3 1862 through an attorney named L J Cantrell. The claim was paid by the Confederate States Government on September 26 1862 and the amount of the settlement was $74.50 which included back pay, etc.

ALFRED WESLEY COLLUM
Alfred Wesley "Red" Collum, 87, of Ladson, formerly of Beaufort, died Friday, January 4 2002, in Summerville Medical Center, Summerville. Grave side services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Beaufort National Cemetery, with military honors and Masonic rites. Mr. Collum was born on October 10 1914, in Acworth Georgia, a son of Belle Smith Collum and Elbert Osteen Collum. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U S Marine Corps and served in WWII.
He was valedictorian of Acworth School in 1934. He was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 22 in Beaufort and a member of the Omar Shriner Temple in Charleston. He was a certified graduate of the Barnum & Bailey Clown School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Myra Litz Collum, and a daughter, Sandra K Collum Kimbrell. Survivors include a brother, Boyd Collum of Pell City Alabama; a granddaughter and two great grandchildren. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to Anderson Funeral Home, Inc., P O Box 6208, Beaufort, S C 29903. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge.
