Notes for FRANK V DAVIS:

THE PARIS NEWS, 22 Mar 1968: Head-on collision of two pickup trucks on a country road in northwest Lamar County Friday afternoon claimed the life of a Paris man and seriously injured three other men. Dead was Frank V. Davis, 70, agricultural appraiser for the Liberty National Bank, who lived at 1035 E. Polk, Davis was dead on arrival at a Paris hospital following the 5:15 p.m. smashup about four miles north of the Emberson Community. Injured and hospitalized here were Charles R. Whitener, 29, Roxton agriculture teacher; Roy Goyne, 63, 1104 16th SE, and Richard Owen, 49, 949 12th SE, both employees of Texas Power and Light Co. All three were reported to be improving Saturday morning. Whitener was a patient at McCuistion Community Hospital, Goyne and Owens were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Whitener suffered fracture of several ribs, possible internal injuries and lacerations. Goyne was treated for shock, head injuries and lacerations, Owens suffered injuries in the lower chest and possible internal injuries. Texas Highway Patrolman Larry Abshire investigated the accident located 8.2 miles northwest of Paris. The scene was on a gravel road, known as the old Cato road which formerly went north to Forest Chapel and now dead ends at Pat Mayse Reservoir. The officer identified Whitener as driver of a 1966 Chevrolet pickup traveling north on the road with Davis as a passenger. Owen was listed as driver of a 1967 Ford pickup, owned by the power company, which was going south, Goyne was a passenger. The two collided head on at the crest of a blind hill. Light snow was falling and it was misty at the time, the patrolman said. Following the crash, one of the men was able to walk some 200 yards north to the residence of Lee Pinegar. There was no telephone there, and Pinegar drove the injured man to a store about four miles south to call for help. The fatality was the third in Lamar County since Jan 1. Services for Mr. Davis will be held here Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Fry and Gibbs chapel, and interment made in Evergreen Cemetery. Employees of Liberty National Bank will be honorary bearers. Surviving are Mr. Davis' wife, the former Olivia Branum of Roxton, whom he married 23 Sep 1928; two sons, Frank Davis Jr., Irving, and Jack Lee Davis, Euless; two grandchildren and three sisters; Mrs. B.
