elsewhere in Alsace
Ensisheim
Ensisheim was the capital of the Austrian possessions of the Habsburgs in Alsace. In the town centre next to the church and the Palace of the Regency is a beautiful fountain dedicated to Rudolf Hapsburg. In 1693, Jean Martin GLOCKNER of Bitschwiller married Anne Marie ZINNER. They moved to Thann and married into the HALLER line.
Ribeauville
Today Ribeauville is believed to be one of the lovliest towns on the wine road of Alsace. It is many miles north of the valley's of the Thur, Lauch and Doller. Elizabeth GRESSLI (abt 1615 - 1695) is believed to have been born in Switzerland but died in 1695 in Ribeauville. She married Ursus MATHIS of Erschweil, Switzerland. Their daughter Marie MATHIS married Jean Jacques WALDER (another Swiss emigrant family) at Willer in 1688.
Munster
Munster sits in the mountains north of the Valley of the Lauch in the valley of the Fecht River. It is almost due west of Colmar on a main road through the Vosges. Claude ARNOLD was born in Gerbeviller (on the other side of the Vosges near Nancy) in 1623 but moved to Munster around 1639 where he married Marie SIFFERLIN of Kruth. His son, Jean Jacques ARNOLD (abt 1640 - 1719), became the Mayor of Kruth before marrying into the MUNSCH/GSTALER/REBISCHUNG family in Bitschwiller.
