           Also nears this tomb lies the remains of Hannah Chandler, daughter of Daniel

          and Jane Williams, died 14 Aug 1819, age 32 years. names. 

 

"History of Monmouthshire" by Joseph Bradney. This history mentions Daniel Williams renting a farm of 240 acres called Tre-fedw for 110 pounds per annum and the Neudd farm comprising 200 acres rented by Evan williams at 65 pounds per annum.  Both farms are in the parish of Cwmyoy, Hundred of Abergavenny.  This is a transcription of a document dated 1799.  Evan must be a brother or cousin to Daniel, as Daniel's father Evan was deceased by 1750.

Enos was a paraffin dealer...A man who sold oil for lamps..He had a horse and cart.

 

Llanwenarth, Monmouthshire is a village and a parish in Abergavenny district.  The village stands on the river Usk, under the Sugarloaf mountain, 1 mile east of the boundary with Brecon and 2.5 west by north of Abergavenny rail station.  It is a considerable place and contains some curious houses. The parish is in two divisions...Citra and Ultra.  Population in the Citra  in 1851 was 254; in the Ultra division pop. in 1851 was 2248. Limestone is extracted here for use in the Blast Furnaces. Blaenavon was constituted out of Ultra in 1860.

     

Enos and Elizabeth had a total of 13 children.  Two names  are missing.

On the 1891 census William's and Alfred's ages are given as the same.

      The wages for coalminers, and most othr jobs in the pits, was 3 shillings, 6 pence, according   to an agreement dated 1900.

HIs residence in 1929, was Rose Villa, Caerphilly, was given by son Enos on Enos' immigration papers.

He arrived in Canada at the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 2nd, 1929, age 22.  The ship was called "Doric, with the White Star Dominion line, sailing out of Liverpool.  (ref: RG76-IMMIGRATION, series C-1-b...1929 volume 6, page 72, Microfilm T-14819.  He was travelling alone, Third Class, and he gave his trade or occupation in his home country as a collier and he was going to Canada as a farm labourer, under the Land Settlement Branch in Winnipeg, Canada.  His passage was paid for by the Government( i assume it was the Canadian Gov't). He was discribed as a Landed Immigrant.

Evan was a deliveryman from the railway station in LLanbradach, Glamorgan to shops with a horse and cart.  Later he had a lorry and delivered coal.  He shovelled coal into sacks at the mine and delivered it to houses. His son Cyril worked with him and took over his business.

He owned Garthowen House.
