Edgar came to the U.S. on the "British Crown" from England,
and embarked in Philadelphia on June 24,1883 (or on June '76 it says on his
declaration of intention for citizenship}. Left from Liverpool.
He took out this declaration on the 11th day of December, 1934. At this
time he was 73, was living in Belmond, Iowa, with his second wife Mary L.
Dalrylmple. He stated that he had made
a prior declaration on April 17, 1906, in Clay Center, Kansas.
His second marriage to Mary took place at Hampton, Iowa, in May 10, 1910
Mary was born in Minron Twp Ohio. July 15, 1852.
Additional notes:According to an old post card, Edgar and family were
living near Look Out, Oklahoma (then in Woodward County) in the early l900's,
but by Dec.
11, 1909 may have moved back to Missouri. Mary, his daughter, had
written to him from Clay Center, KS., but it appeared card had been forwarded.
Edgar Jenkins was living in the State Hospital in Cherokee when he
passed away on Jan 1, 1941. He is
buried in the Belmond cemetery. Albert lived in Iowa City at that time. Mary
was near Berryton, Ks., and Leona had an address in Chilicothe.
He lived for most of the later years of his life in Belmond, Iowa, but
we are not sure of the date that he came to this area. It would have been sometime around 1910, we
believe.
Edgar and Delia's marriage in Randolph County, Missouri, was recorded at
Jefferson City in Volume 2, Page 489, MF#C19029. We have copy.
According to an old postcard, it appeared that Edgar was back in Clay
Center, KS. on April 17, 1806. Land
purchase in Oklahoma was made April 16, 1903, 160 acres in Township # 28N,
Range # 19W, Sect. 10. It may have been
sold, or lost, on Aug. 2, 1907.
Notes for EMILY DELIA MILDRED CLARK:
[Mdj.GED]
[Ed.Jen..FTW]
Emily Delia Clark was said to have some Indian blood, but research in
1998 revealed information on her father and mother, and other ancestors and no
Indian blood. Delia was very young when
her mother died.
She, after her divorce from Edgar, lived on a farm acreage south of
Madison, Missouri, for a number of years before they moved to the town of
Moberly. She lived in her own home in
Moberly until she passed away. Only her son, Russell, was still in the area and
he lived all his life in that area, most of his adult life in Moberly.
She is buried in the Russell Jenkins family plot in Madison, Mo. As of 1994, Russell and one daughter are
also buried there.
We do not have the exact date of the divorce between Emily and Edgar,
but it must have been around 1909.
The Delia Jenkins place was located just south of the Trusty place (we
got this information from Mrs. Florence Trusty who lived there as a child). The
Southall Clark place was just north of the Trusty place. A sister to Southall
Clark, a Mrs. Thomas, lived across the street from the Delia Clark place. Another Clark widow married a Guthrie. They
also lived in the area, and she had several children from her first husband.
One was named Clarence Valentine Clark..
These homes were all in an area known by some of Lick Skillet, about 4
miles east of Moberly, in Randolph County.
Full name may have been Cordelia.
1910 Census, Randolph Co, Union Township, (156-01b-gif) lists Delia
Jenkins, with children Emma, Lillian, and Russell near bottom of page. Sarah
Thomas is listed on same page with 1 son, and 2 daughters.

[Ed.Jen..FTW]
Bill Jenkins had been in the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines for several
months prior to his being taken to the Belmond Nursing home on May 28, 1996.
He was in the VA hospital when daughter, Leona, died of a stroke. On July 30, he passed away in the nursing
home. He was buried in the family plot
in the Belmond cemetery on August 1, l976.
For many years, he had been suffering from varicose veins in his legs,
and arthritis. He had not been able to
do full time work since sometime around 1938.
He served in World War I in France.
He was a member of the Belmond American Legion post. Discharged on Feb.
25, 1919.
Each year the American Legion, back in the 30's, had an annual
celebration in the Main Street of Belmond.
Bill would serve as an auxiliary policeman for this event.
He came to the Belmond area, and took a farm helper's job on the Arthur
Hinman farm and others (in 1912) before WWI because his father, Edgar, was
living in Belmond and doing carpentry work. (See later notes)
His education extended only to the 3rd or 4th grade. He was taught to
read by his wife, Nettie.
He weighed close to 300 lbs. for much of his life. When they had a
tug-of-war at the local celebrations, he would be the anchor man for one
of the teams. For many years in the
50's and 60's, he drove one of the school buses for the BHS schools. He also worked as a yardman at the Belmond
dump. In the 20's and 30's, he held
jobs as: operator of the beet washing machine at the sugar plant south of town;
operator of a county road grader on the state highway gravel roads near
Belmond; as a digger for tile installation on farms for drainage.
He lived alone in his home in Belmond after his wife, Annetta, passed
away until he went to the VA hospital in Des Moines. He liked to play
'penny-ante', and many hours were passed with relatives and friends at
this card game.
One of the interesting things he did was to crack out nut meats which he
packaged and sold. He would go into the
groves of the area there there were nut trees, pick up those nuts. After cracking, he would carefully pick out
the nut meats which were quite in demand.
For many years, his vegetable gardens next to his home were full of all
types of vegetables. He was an
avid gardener. Annetta (or Nettie) for
many years canned all sorts of these vegetables which were used for their meals
during the winter months.
Bill was discharged from the U.S. Army Feb 25, 1919..Went in
Dec.13,1917.
As a teen, he worked on farms (one was H. Rundle) in the Clay Center,
Ks. area where his uncle, Charles Jenkins, lived. At this time in 1909, he was
16. His mother and the 3 youngest children lived near Moberly, Mo. His two
older sisters, Mary and Leona, were working in the Clay Center area, also. His father, Edgar, was working as a
carpenter in the Belmond Iowa area. He
later went to Belmond (around 1912 when he was l8 or 19) and worked on farms
there. (E.Martin as well as Arthur Hinman)

Funeral services were held for Annetta at 2:00 pm,at the Congregational
Church in Belmond. Burial was in
the Belmond cemetery in the Jenkins plot.
She died in the Belmond hospital from cancer, April 29, 1969.
Casket bearers were Henry Johnson, Robert Cooke, Durwood LaRue, Dale
Kessler, Gunnar Kling, and Wallace Cramer.
She was educated in the rural schools near Latimer, Iowa.
She spent some time as a child on a farm near Tulia, Texas, where her
father had purchased some land. When
her father passed away, she and her mother returned to relative's homes in
Minnesota (near Dodge Center), and then later to Hampton.
Her mother, Minnie, spent some years working for her brother-in-law,
Peter Bergman, after his wife (Minnie's sister) passed away.
She was confirmed in the Evengelischen Immanuel Kirche in Marion
Township
Franklin County, Iowa, on 16 Marz, 1913. Annette Maria Katharina
Prenzler is the name on the certificate.
It is believed that she and Bill met while they were both working in the
Belmond area before he was shipped out for World War I. They married shortly after his return. She worked for a time at the Belmond Hotel
doing chambermaid duties. Both worked for Arthur Hinman at one time.
Baptism certificate reads: Annette Prenzler, born Jan. 1, 1896, daughter
of Jur. Prenzler and Wilhelmina Lindloff.
Birthplace: Latimer, Iowa.
Baptism was on 16 Jan. 1896 at Latimer Church. Standing up were Maria

Leona Jenkins married George Holte.
Two children were born.
They lived in the Clay Center, Kansas, area all of their life.
The first time that I met my Aunt Leona was when she attended the
funeral of my grandfather, Edgar Jenkins, in Belmond. She came up from Clay
Center by train and bus to be there.
It is believed that sometime around 1910, she came to live with her
Uncle Charley, who had no children, and she met and married George Holte there.

[Ed.Jen..FTW]
Emma met George Benson at the place where they worked in Kansas City.
She said they took the train to St. Louis to get married by a J.P. After some time in St.Louis & Calif,
they moved to Baltimore. This is where
they spent most of their married life, and where they raised their five
children: Elsie, Georgia, Jack, Bob, and Bill.
She could remember the farm home where she, her mother, Russell, and
Lillian May lived. She recalled that
her mother, Delia, and her brother,
Russell, had gone to visit in Clay Center, Ks. where two of the older
sisters were working, and had left she and May to take care of the farm and the
animals. One nite, after dark, they
were walking home from a church meeting at the church down the road from their
home. When they came near the house,
they noticed the lamp was lit in the house.
This they thought meant somebody strange was in the house, so they went
down and stayed with a woman they called "Aunt Polly" down the road.
The next day they determined that they had lit that lamp before they left, and
had forgot to turn it off. Aunt Polly was probably a Thomas.
Children are: Elsie (Jun 22,1921), Georgia (Sep. 21, 1923), George (June
6,1925), John (July 31,1927) Bill (Aug. 11, 1929).
After her father left the farm near Lookout, Ok. to look for work else-
where, her mother and four of the children went by covered wagon back to
a farm near Moberly, Mo. This was
around 1908. Albert was with Edgar, and
Mary had gone to work for Uncle Charley.
Willie later went to Kansas to work near Clay Center, and then up to
Belmond. May and Emma, along with
little John Russel, continued to live on the farm established by their mother
near their grandfather's farm.

Russell Jenkins, 83, of Moberly died Monday at 10:36 AM, March 16, 1992,
in the emergency room of Moberly Regional Medical Center, where he was taken
after becoming ill while at the supermarket in Moberly.
He was for many years before retiring the sexton of the Oakland Cemetery
for the city of Moberly.
He was survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and
Milford Webster of Jay, Maine; grandaughter Deana Kay Hundley, and two great
grandchildren, Dawn and Shawn Davidson, all of Moberly. His grand daughter,
Diana Turner, preceded him in death.
Services were at l:30 PM Wednesday, March 18, 1992, in Cater Funeral
Home Chapel. Burial was in the family
plot in Sunset Hill Cemetery at Madison, Missouri.
Russell said he was a 'string bean' up until they took the grandchildren
in. Delia's mother buried in cemetery in a pasture, not kept up now. Southall
Clark buried in a cemetery, no marker, and the church burned down. He died in 1922 or 23. Elmer Guthrie's mother was married to Salem
Clark, grandpa's brother, and they lived across the road from Delia's
cabin. "Aunt Martha Mills"
lived down the road.. Deana
was 9 months old when Russell and Ruby took the girls in to raise.
Southall Clark married his brother's (Salem) wife. He had three step children: Dave Clark, Babe
Clark (daughter Blossom), and Leona Clark.
Babe is buried in the Walnut cemetery.
Could have been 2 more.
The last few years that Delia had the farm, but lived in town in winter,
they would (Delia and Russell) live in a tent on the farm in the summer.
The girls who were still at home, Leona and Emma, worked in town so they
stayed in town. Lightning struck a persimmon tree next to the tent on the farm
one summer. Some of these notes are from conversations with Emma.

May 1, 1916. Address was the Nut
Shell, Goytrey, nr Pontypool. He mentioned that he weighed 10 stone ll,
comparing himself to Edgar's 235 lbs. He stated the war was going on, things
didn't look too good, but that "we intend to win as long as we have a man
left". It has made things very bad, but we are still holding on. He stated
he had rheumatism, and trouble with his legs, which he said is a family
complaint.
He said that he had five miles to go to work in a grocers shop in
Pontypool, that he rides his cycle forwards and backward night and
morning. He said to remember him to
Hercules, Amos and Charles.
On Feb. 26, 1928, Sydney again wrote.
His address then was: 46
Byrnwar, Pontypool. He stated
John had been dead for 2 years, and was buried at Llanderry Church. Said Hannah was lived in Gloucester with a
married daughter. He mentioned he had
two sons, and two daughters. One of these sons is William, Jenny's father, who
was l6 at this time.
On September 22, 1930, Sydney write again. He mentioned that brother William and sister Adelaide were living
together in a cottage in Goytrey.
William's eyesight was failing him.
Another letter to Edgar from Sydney on August 24, 1931 informed him that
William had passed away on the 12th of August, 1931. He sent some clippings
that are recapped on William's card.
Wales had a bad summer, sorry hay crop, etc. Lots of people out of work.

We visited Aunt Frances (to Jenny Winters) in Usk, in Wales, when we
were on a trip to England. She was
living in a small apartment in a building sponsored by the church for the
elderly. We visited with her at her
home and also at a pub in Usk where we had lunch. Ruth and I were there with William and Vi Jenkins and Jenny and
her family.
She was born in Pontypool, but lived in Surrey before moving to Usk.
