            In the name of God Amen I William Morris of the parish of Cumcarvan in the County of Monmouth and Diocess of Landaff doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in writeing in manner and form following.  First I recomend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping throe the merits of Jesus Christ my saviour to have free pardon of my sins.  I bequeath my body to be buried in a Cristian buriall according to the discretion of my executrix hereafter mentiond.  I give and bequeath unto my wife Ann Morris all my personall estate for and dureing her naturall life for the better suport of her maintenance and after her deseas I give unto my brother John Morris twelve pound my will and meaning is that my brother Jno Morris should have all my wearing aparrell imediatly after my deceas.   I give unto my sister Mary Morgan eight pound.  I give unto my neece Mary Morris three pound.  I give unto my neece Elizabeth Morris three pound.  I give unto my neece Anne Morris two pound.  I give unto my neece Katheren Morris three pound.  I give unto my neece Jane Morris two pound.  I give unto Jno James my nephew two pound.  I give unto Ann Morgan my neece two pound.  I give unto Marget Morgan my neece two pound.  I give unto Charles Morgan my nephew one pound.  My will and meaning is that all the above legacys is not to be paid till after the deceas of my wife Ann Moris.  Lastly I doe apoint Anne Morris my beloved wife soal executrix of this my last will and doe request and desier James Blower of the parish of Cumcarvan in trust to asist my wife and be trustie to ye performing this my Will.  In wittness hereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this 11th day of January in the year of our Lord 1739.  the marke of Wm (X) Moris.

April the 22d 1740.  Elizabeth Morris the neece and legatee herein named was sworn well and faithfully to administer &c to the truth of the inventory &c and to render an account &c before me William Harris, Surrogate

 

Upon the twenty second day of April in the year of our Lord Christ 1740 by the Reverend Mr William Harris, Clerke, the Chansellor’s Surrogate was administration (with this Will annexed) granted and commited to Elizabeth Morris the neece and legatee in this Will named who was first upon the holy Evangelists personally sworn well and faithfully to administer &c to the truth of the inventory &c and to render a just account of her administration &c when thereunto lawfully required

 

Janry the 17th 1739.  A true and perfect inventory of the goods chatles & credits of William Morris of the parish of Cumcarvan in the County of Monmouth deceas’d is as followeth.

June the 26th 1740.  Elizabeth Morris was sworn to the truth of this inventory before me  And: Cuthbert

 

NOTE:  There are 2 copies of this inventory.  The differences being that the sum of £43 was due from Walter Nicholas, and Elizabeth Morris the niece exhibited the inventory on 26 June 1740 at Monmouth

 

Know all me by these presents that we Elizabeth Morris of the parish of Cwmcarvan in the County of Monmouth spinster and James Blower of the same parish yeoman are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Matthias by divine permission Lord Bishop of Landaffe in the sum of twenty         pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents.  Sealed with our seals dated the 22d day of  April 1740 

 

            The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Elizabeth Morris the legatee named in the last Will and Testament of William Morris late of the parish of  Cwmcarvan in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Landaffe deceased (Anne Morris the relict and executrix dyeing before she had taken upon her the execution of the said Will) with the Will annexed of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of the said  Elizabeth Morris or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for    and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the Registry of the Consistory Court of Landaffe on or before  the 22d day of October next ensuing and the same goods chattels and credits and all other the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do well and faithfully administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts of the said deceased which did owe at death and then the legacies contained and specified in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration so to be committed as far as goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge and further do make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of said administration when shall be thereunto lawfully required. And all the rest and reside of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrat accompt and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges of the said Court for the time being shall distribute and pay in such manner and form as shall be limited by the direction of the said Judge.  And lastly do at all times hereafter clearly acquit discharge and save harmless the within named Lord Bishop the said Judge and all other officers of the said Court against all persons having or pretending to have any right title or interest in the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue.  The marke of Elizabeth (X) Morris;  James Blower
