            In the name of God Amen I William Evans of the parish of Langwm in the County of Monmouth yeoman being in health of body and of sound mind memory and understanding praised be God for the same, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say.  First and principally I commend my soul to God that gave it and my body to be decently buried by my executrix hereinafter named.  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Evans during the term of her natural life all that messuage or tenement farm and lands which I bought of my brother Thos Evans situate in the said parish of Langwm and after her decease to my son John Evans and his heirs for ever, and in case of his decease without issue, then to be sold and the money arising from such sale to be equally divided share and share alike between my daughters or the survivors of them.  Likewise I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife the Wern Orchard which I bought of Margaret Morris during the term of her natural life and after her decease to my daughter Rachel and her heirs for ever.

            Secondly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rachel Evans aforesaid the sum of fifty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain and a bed, bedstead and two pair of bed cloaths to be paid and gave at the end of twelve months after my decease.  Likewise I give and bequeath unto my daughters Mary, Margaret and Martha the sum of five pounds each of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid by my executrix twelve months after my decease.  I give and bequeath unto my son William and my daughter Jane for reasons of their being heretofore provided for the sum of one shilling each and no more. 

            Lastly all the rest and residue of my goods, chattels, stock, estate and effects of what nature or kind soever not herein given or bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth for her own use and benefit.  And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said beloved wife Elizabeth Evans whole and sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all other and former Will and Wills by me heretofore made.  In witness whereof I the said William Evans have hereunto set and subscribed my hand and seal this 29th day of May 1818.  William Evans

Benjamin Hall, Doctor in Divinity, Vicar General and Official Principal of the Right Reverend Father in God William by divine permission Lord Bishop of Llandaff lawfully constituted.  To our well beloved in Christ the Reverend Thomas Addams Williams, James Barnard Davies and Benjamin Jones, Clerks in the County of Monmouth and diocese of Llandaff, greeting whereas William Evans late of the parish of Langwm in the County and diocese aforesaid yeoman deceased did make his last Will and Testament (hereunto annexed) and did therein name his wife Elizabeth Evans sole executrix and afterwards died.  We do therefore empower you jointly and severally to swear the said Elizabeth Evans to the truth of the affidavit hereunto annexed, as well as to the truth of the said Will as of the faithful performance thereof and to make a true inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased and to render a just and true account and to exhibit the same into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Llandaff.  And you are hereby enjoyned further to do in the premises as shall be needful and that such oath being administered you duly transmit to us our Surrogate this Commission and all your proceedings thereon subscribed with the proper hand writing of one or more of you on or before the last day of June next ensuing provided nevertheless that this Commission shall be of no effect unless so transmitted before the said time.  Dated at Llandaff the twelfth day of April one thousand eight hundred and twenty four.

 

            The form of the oath to Elizabeth Evans the said executrix laying her right hand on the holy Evangelists, your oath is that the paper writing hereunto annexed contains the true last Will and testament of the above William Evans deceased as far as you know or believe, and that you will truly perform the same first by paying his debts and then the legacies therein contained so far as his goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge, and that you will make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said goods chattels and credits and exhibit the same into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Llandaff at the time assigned you by the said Court and also render a just account thereof when lawfully required.  That the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to the sum of two hundred pounds.  And that the contents of the affidavit hereunto annexed to which you have subscribed your name were and are true.  So help you God

 

            This Commission was duly executed and the said Elizabeth Evans sworn according to the tenor of the above oath this 19th day of April 1824.  before me Benjamin Jones, Commissioner

In the Consistory Court of Llandaff. In the Goods of Mr William Evans deceased

On the 19th day of April 1824

 

Appeared Personally Elizabeth Evans of the parish of Langwm on the County of Monmouth, widow the sole Executrix named in the last Will and Testament of the said  William Evans late of the parish of  Langwm yeoman aforesaid deceased, who died on the  tenth day of April instant and made Oath that the Estate and Effects of the said deceased, for and in respect of which a Probate of the said Will is to be granted, exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a Trustee for any other Person or Persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any thing on account of the Debts due and owing from the said deceased, are under the value of  two hundred Pounds, to the best of this Deponent’s knowledge, information, and belief. And she lastly made Oath that the said deceased did not die possessed of any Leasehold Estate or Estates for years, either absolute or determinable, on a life or lives to the best of this Deponent’s knowledge, information and belief.  The mark of Elizabeth (X) Evans.  Witness Catherine Jones
