                In the name of God Amen I William Probert of Llanthomas in the parish of Cumcarven in the County of Monmouth farmer being of sound memory and understanding make this my last Will and Testament.  First I request that all my just debts and funeral expences be paid by my executor hereafter mentioned and afterwards I give and bequeath all my worldly effects as follows vizt.  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Probert the interest of three hundred and forty four pounds during her natural life if she remain my widow and in case she should marry again then the principal sum of three hundred and forty four pounds I give and bequeath unto David Edwards my son in law and his heirs for ever and all interest arising there from from the day of her marriage, and in case she does not marry then it is my desire that my said beloved wife should receive the interest of the above three hundred & forty four pounds during her natural life and after her decease then I give the said sum of three hundred & forty four pounds to the above named David Edwards and his heirs for ever.  And as the said sum of three hundred and forty four pounds lies out on Bond and Note as under, vizt.  Two hundred pounds lent to Mr David Waters on a joint Bond from him & his son.  Sixty pounds lent to Mr James Hall on his Note. Sixty three pounds to Mr Phillip Probert and the sum of twenty one pounds to Edward Pritchard lent them on their Notes, their securities now lying in my house.  It is my further desire and request that if my said son in law David Edwards thinks that any of the aforesaid sum or sums of money are not safe by the above given Bond, Note or Notes of Hand above mentioned, it is my request that the said David Edwards with the consent of my beloved wife should call in any of the above sum or sums of money giving her security for the interest of the said sum or sums as he shall call in during her natural life.

            And I give unto John Hall my son in law all my living & dead stock, houshold furniture, implements of husbandry and all debts due to me except the above nam’d sum of three hundred & forty four pounds given to my son in law David Edwards upon their condition that the said John Hall maintains my said beloved wife during her natural life in case she keeps a widow and he shall at all times endeavour to make her life comfortable and if in case my beloved wife and my said son in law John Hall or his wife should not live happy together it is my request that the said John Hall shall find and give good security to my said wife for the sum of twenty pounds of good & lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid my said wife every year during her natural life and to be paid her by two installments vizt every six months, the sum of ten pounds on the day & month after the date of the said security and the second payment of ten pounds on the day twelve months after the date of the said security and so on every year during her widowhood or her natural life if in case she does not marry again.  And I do hereby appoint my said son in law John Hall my sole executor of this my last Will & Testament.  Dated this sixteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & one.   The mark of Wm (X) Probert

13 Oct 1801.  John Hall the sole executor in the above written will named was sworn to the truth thereof & to the faithful performance of the same & that the goods chattles & credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to the sum of one thousand pounds.  Before me Benj Hall,, Chancellor

 

Proved at Abergavenny on the 13th day of Oct 1801 before the Chancellor on the oath of John Hall sole executor named in the said Will
