James Watkins of Llgattock Vibon Avel 1810.

In the name of God Amen This is the last will and testament of me James Watkins of the Hendre in the parish of Llangattock Vibon Avel in the County of Monmouth, Gentleman.

I desire that all my just debts funeral expences and the charges of proving this my will may be in the first place paid and satisfied out of such personal estate as I shall die possessed of. I give and bequeath the sum of fifty pounds unto my daughter Mary Jones the wife of John Jones of the parish of Saint Maughan’s in the said County of Monmouth, farmer. I give and bequeath the like sum of fifty pounds unto my daughter Elizabeth Hodges the wife of William Hodges of the Town of Monmouth, currier. I give and bequeath unto William Phillpotts, Thomas Phillpotts, John Phillpotts and Ann Phillpotts the sons and daughter of my present wife by her former husband the sum of seven pounds apiece. I also give unto Esther Lewis wife of Thomas Lewis another daughter of my said wife the sum of seven pounds for her own use and benefit. I also give and bequeath unto my step children Mary Morgan wife of Edward Morgan of Llangattock Vibon Avel aforesaid, farmer, and Jane Baker wife of John Baker of the Town of Monmouth, cabinet maker the two daughters of my late wife Jane the sum of seven pounds apiece for their own use and benefit. I desire that all the said legacies may be paid within twelve months after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto the Minister and Churchwardens of the said parish of Llangattock Vibon Avel in the County of Monmouth and their successors for the time being for ever the sum of fifty pounds now placed out upon security of the Monmouth Turnpike Trust In trust that they the said Minister and Churchwardens and their successors for the time being do and shall call in the said sum of fifty pounds and place the sum out at interest upon good and sufficient security and do and shall apply dispose of and lay out the interest dividends or annual produce thereof in the purchase of bread to be given and distributed to and amongst the poor parishioners of the said parish of Llangattock Vibon Avel on Christmas day yearly for ever or at any other time or times the said Minister and Churchwardens shall in their discretion think proper. And as to all my farming stock household furniture ready money and securities for money and all other my personal estate and effects of what nature or kind soever not herein before disposed of, I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my dear wife Ann for her own sole use and benefit. I do nominate and appoint Philip James in the parish of Llangattock Vibon Avel aforesaid, farmer and my said wife Ann Watkins to be executor and executrix of this my will. Lastly I do hereby revoke all other wills which I have ever made and do declare this only to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said James Watkins have hereunto set my hand and seal this fifth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine. The mark of James Watkins.

9th October 1810 Ann Watkins, widow, the relict and one of the executors in the above will named was sworn to the truth thereof and to the faithful performance of the same and that the goods &c of the said deceased do not amount in value to the sum of three hundred pounds (power being --? for the other executor) before me. Chas Powell, Surrogate.
