In the name of God Amen, I William Thomas of the parish of Cumcarvan in the Countie of Monmouth and in the Diocesse of Landaffe yeom, being found and perfect in memory, and apprehensive in my reason, and understanding (praised be God) onely incident to some naturall infirmities which are signes and forerunners of death and mortality I doe therefore make my last will & testament in manner and forme following I doe principally and most solemnly setle and bequeth my soul into the hands of God, my maker, and Christ Jesus my saviour and redeemer by whose merits and mediation I doe assuredly hope for eternal salvation and alsoe into the hands of the Holy Ghost --? --? body I doe order at the discretion of my executrix to be interred in Christian burial and within the psh church of Cumcarvan and I doe dispose and setle my goods, bills --? monies and chattels which remaine unsetled, being in my possesion and not formerly disposed of in manner and form as it follows in --? thus
Inpis I doe give and bequeath to my daughter Blanch the wife of Hugh Powell late deceased the sum of six pounds to be disposed by her equally between her children and the aforesd legacy is to be paid by my executrix within the space of a yeare following
Itt I give and bequeath to my grandson Philip Griffith the sum of five pounds which said sum Philip Griffith is to share between his children and to lay out to increase for the childrens advantage and this sum is to be paid by my executrix within the space of one yeare after my decease
Itt I give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Anne Griffith, daughter of William Griffith all my moveable goods, catle & chattles, bonds, bills & monies due unto me at the time of my decase and alsoe I give and bequeath unto her all my houshold stuffe as brasse, pewter, sheets, blankets, curlets, rugs, table & coths, napkins, towells, wooden vessels, and all other houshold stuffe onely excepted such standards which I give and bequeath unto my onelie son John Williams being the heir of my dwelling house (that is to say) one table board, tenn? benches?, bed stead, six shelves, one box or coffer where my writteings be kept
Ittem I doe give and bequeath unto my son in law William Griffith out of the naturall affection I doe beare unto him all debts and arreages of rent due to me for many yeares from the said William being my tenant and I doe fully and absolutely dischardge him from all claimes whatsoever due to me in my life time or --? my executrix or any other pson may or --? hearafter have or claim against him the said William Griffith
Itt I give and bequeath the sum of forty shillings to be equally distributed between the poor of the two parishes of Micheltroy & Cumcarvan and for --? --? of a religious and a pious reverence to the worship --? I doe chardge my executrix to pay the the Church of Landaffe one six pence and to --? --? --? funerall? sermon at my funerall.
Itt I doe revoke and disanul all former wills and testaments which I have formerly made and doe constitute my grandaughter Anne Griffith to be sole executrix of this my last will & testament and doe further bequeath unto her my sd executrix all moveable goods which shall be in my possesion at the time of my departure and all monies, and depts due to me to enable her to pay the aforesd legacies by me bequeathed and to defray the expences of my funerall.
