      This is the last Will and Testament of me Sarah Hodges of the parish of Magor in the County of Monmouth, widow, made during the enjoyment of health and mental faculties (thanks be given to Almighty God for the same) whereby I revoke and make void all former and other Wills and Will by me at any time heretofore made declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament that is to say.  I give and bequeath unto my daughters Sarah Watkins and Ann Pearce the sum of two hundred pounds each and to my faithful servant Jane Pearce now living with me the sum of fifty pounds and to my son James Hodges the sum of two hundred pounds which he now owes me and the further sum of fifty pounds to be paid to them respectively and their several and respective executors administrators and assigns within twelve months after my decease.  All that my messuage or dwelling house situate in Magor aforesaid wherein I now inhabit with the garden and orchard thereto adjoining and belonging together with all and every their appurtenances I give and devise unto my son John Hodges to hold to him my said son John and his heirs and assigns for ever.  And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects as well real as personal whatsoever and wheresoever I also give devise and bequeath the same unto my said son John his heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely.  And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said son John Hodges sole executor of this my Will.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five.   Sarah Hodges.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Sarah Hodges the testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.  Daniel Baker of Magor;  Richard Baker of Lanvihangel;  Wm Matthews of Caerwent.

 

30th day of March 1826.  John Hodges the lawful son of the deceased and sole executor named in this Will was duly sworn as such.  And that the goods chattels and credits of the deceased are under the value of one thousand and five hundred pounds before me Thos Lewis, Surrogate

 

In the consistory Court of Llandaff.  In the goods Mrs Sarah Hodges deceased.

Appeared personally John Hodges of the parish of Magor in the County of Monmouth, Gentleman, the sole executor named in the last Will and Testament of the said Sarah Hodges late of the parish of Magor aforesaid, widow deceased, who died on the  twenty sixth and made Oath that the estate and effects of the said deceased for and in respect of which a Probate is to be granted, exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a Trustee for any other person or persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any thing on account of debts due and owing from the said deceased, are under the value of one thousand and five hundred pounds to the best of this deponent’s knowledge, information and belief.  John Hodges
