Thomas Powell of Newport.

 

In the name of God Amen ye third day of October in ye year of our Lord 1683 I Thomas Powell, Clerk Vicar of Newport in ye County of Monmouth do make and ordaine this my last will & testament in maner & forme following.

First I bequeath my soule into ye hands of Almighty God my maker hoping yt through ye meritorious death & bitter passion of Jesus Christ (my onely mediator & saviour) to obtaine free pardon and forgiveness of all my sinnes, and as for my body to be buried in Christian buriall att ye discretion of my executrix hereafter nominated.

Itm I give unto ye poore twenty shillings to be distributed when & how my executrix pleases.

Itm I give & bequeath unto my sonne Nathaniell fifty shillings yt is oweing to me from my brother David Howell of Henllis and fifty shillings more I order & appoynt my executrix to pay him after my decease in some considerable time to gether wth what houshold stuffe & goods I had by his mother.

Itm I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anne twenty pounds to be paid her att ye time of her marriage p’vided her mothers consent be had.

Itm All ye rest of my goods cattles chattles, bookes, rents and houshold stuffe in England & Wales whatsoever and where soever I give & bequeath unto my deare wife Margarett whom I nominate and constitute ye sole executrix of of this my last will & testament revoking all others. Know all men by these presents that we Rees Williams of the parish of Lanvrechva in the County of Monmouth, and James Williams of the parish of Lanvrechva aforesaid, yeoman, are held firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God William Lord Bishop of Llandaff in ------ of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain Attorney his executors administrators or assigns To which payment well and truly to be made we oblige ourselves and each of us by himself --? for the whole our and each and every of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents sealed with our seals Dated the nineteenth day of October in the year of our Lord 1694

The Condition of this Obligation is such that if the above bounden Rees Williams the curator & guardian lawfully assigned to Stephen Powell & Anne Powell minors ye natural and lawful children of Thomas Powell late of ye towne of Newport in ye County of Monmouth aforesd Clarke dece’d and administrator of all & singular ye goods chells & credits of ye sd dece’d wth his sd will annexed to ye use & dureing ye minority of ye sd minors doe pay all the debts & legacies of the sd dece’d in soe farr forth as ye sd will thereunto extend & ye law binds him & more over yield & render as well a true & pfect inventory of the sayd goods, as allsoe a faithfull & just account of & upon his administration thereof at such time & when he shalbe thereunto lawfully required, and lastly defend & save harmeless ye above sd Lord Bishop & all his officers, for & touching the granting of the said administration, that then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force & virtue.
