In the Name of God Amen this twenty third day of January in the year of our Lord 1834.
I James Madley of the parish of Newchurch East in the County of Monmouth, Yeoman, being of perfect mind and sound memory do here by make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say first and principally, I commit my soul intwo [sic] the Mercifull hands of Almighty God who gave it. And my Body to the earth to be buried in decent Christian form at the discretion and expence of my Dearly belov'd daughter Ann Lewis - To whome the said Ann Lewis I give, ordain and bequeath the whole and sole of my stock of sheep all & every one of them singularly and two receive the same from the hands of my Executor immediately after my Funeral.
And I likewise give and bequeath to the above Ann Lewis, together with James Madley, Sarah Hickes, Samuel Madley, William Madley & Hannah Williams Equal Shares and adequate parts of a sum of Money now deposited and lying in the hands of Mr. Anthoney Gardner, Merchant Maltster &c., Chepstow. So that each each of the above named sharers in the Sum of Money shall circumstantially receive the same or Equal Value agreeable to a former arrangement.
I like give and bequeath to the above Ann Lewis the whole of my bed lining or bed clothes in which I now sleep or repose. And likewise the whole of my movable Household furniture with the exception of such as shall be herinafter noted - to be valued and divided in Equal substance or value betwixd the above: Ann Lewis, James Madley, Sarah Wickes, Samuel Madley, William Madley, Hanna Williams & Phillip Madley.
And I likewise give and bequeath unto my well belov'd son Phillip Madley to himself, to his Heirs, administrators and assignes, the whole and every part and privilidge of my Leacehold House, Land, Premices and appertainences solely and singularly freely to possess and renere(?) as the case may require or permit. The same lying and being in the above parish and county.
And I likewise give and bequeath to my above named son, Phillip Madley, the 4 grates to remain in their several fixed places as at present, with one cubbord, one bedded, one square lap'd Table and one book, A Dictionary.
And I likewise appoint constitute and ordain the same, my son Phillip Madley, to be my only and sole Executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereoff I have heruntwo set my Hand and Seal on the Day and Year above stated in presence of the undersigned.
All Legal reasonable expence of probate &c to be allowed by each of the Legatees in due proportion to Phillip Madley Executor.

16th day of September 1834 Phillip Madley the lawful son of the deceased and sole Executor in this Will named was duly sworn as such and that the Goods Chattles and Credits of the said deceased are under the Value of Two Hundred Pounds.
