This Indenture made the fower and
twentieth day of Aprill Anno Domini 1649 betweene Lewis Leach of
Crick wthin the pish of Matharne in the Countie of Monmoth yeoman and Sara
his wife of the one ptie and William Lewis of the pish of Lanvihangell
torymynith in the said County weaver of the other ptie. Witnesseth that the said Lewis Leach
and Sara his wife for and in consideracon of a marriadge by God’s
pmission shortly to be had and solemnized betweene the said William Lewis
and Margaret Leach eldest daughter of the said Lewis Leach and Sara
his wife and for a competent livelihood to be had and provided for the said Margarett
have graunted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these
presents doe graunte bargaine sett alien enfeoffe and confirme unto the said William
Lewis and his heire all? that new erected cottage together wth one garden
and one pcell of arrable lande thereunto belonging conteyneing by estimacon
three acres or thereabouts scituate lying and being wthin the pish of Porscuet
in the said County of Monmoth betweene the landes there called the twenty acres
the highway leading from Caldicot to Chepstow, the landes called le slorde? end
and the land land late in the tenure of Watkin Gough on all or most ptes
and sides thereof. And the re’con and
re’cons remainder and remainders of all and singular the premisses wth
thaptenances to have and to hould the said cottage garden and pcell of land
with all and singular thapptences unto the said William Lewis and his
heires forever to the uses intents and purposes heereafter in and by these
presents expressed and declared and to noe other use intent or purpose
whatsoever (that is to say) from and ymediatly after the said marriage shall
take effect to the use and behoofe of the said William Lewis and Margaret
his wife for and dureing the terme of their naturall lives and the life of the
longest liver of them and after their deceases and the decease of the longest
liver to the use and behoofe of the heires of the body of the said William
Lewis upon the body of the said Margaret lawfully begotten or to be
begotten and for the want of such issue to the use & behoofe of the heires
of the body of the said Margaret lawfully to be begotten and in defaulte
of such issue to the use and behoofe of the right heires of the said Lewis
Leach forever. And the said Lewis
Leach and Sara his wife doe for themselves their heires and assignes
covenant promise and graunte to and with the said William Lewis and his
heires that they the said Lewis Leach and Sara his wife now are or one
of them is lawfully seised of all and singular the premisses of good perfect
and inde...cible estate of inheritance and that they have or one of them hath
full power and authority to convey the same and that the same premisses forever
heereafter shall remaine and continued to the uses aforesaid cleerely acquitted
and dischardged of and from all and all manner of charges and incombrances
whatsoever. And the said Lewis Leach
and Sara his wife doe for themselves their heires and assignes further
covenant promise and graunte to and wth the said William Lewis and his heires
by these pr’tes that they the said Lewis Leach and Sara
his wife shall and will from time to time and at all times heereafter dureing
the space of seaven yeares next ensueing the date heereof upon the reasonnable
request and at the costs and chardges in the lawe of the said William Lewis
and his heires make doe acknowledge execute and suffer or cause to be made
donne acknowledged executed and suffered all and every such further act and
acts thing and things devise and devises in the lawe whatsoever for the more
pfect sure makeing and conveying of the pr’misses to the uses aforesaid as by
the said William Lewis or his heires or by his or their Councell learned
in the lawe shalbe reasonnably devised avised? or required provided that the
said Lewis Leach and Sara his wife be not compelled to travaile
out of the County of Monmoth for the effecting of any such estate. In witnes whereof the pties to these pr’tes
have inter changeably sett their handes and seales the day and yeare first
