In the name of God Amen this is the last will and testament of me Thomas Lewis of the Town of Monmouth, mercer, as followeth. First I commend my soul to Almighty God my maker hoping to be saved through the merits of my blessed redeemer and my body to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named. Item I give and devise to George Millbourne of Wonastow in the County of Monmouth Esquire and John Nourse of the parish of Weston under Penyard in the County of Hereford Esquire all those messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments situate and lying within the several parishes or precincts of Kilgoroog and Wolvesnewton in the County of Monmouth and also all that parcell of land called Cae Funnon within the parish of Trelleg in the said County of Monmouth formerly purchased by my brother Henry Lewis of Highga in the said County of Monmouth Esquire from Andrew Nicholas with their several and respective apputenances and also all that messuage, tenement farm, lands and hereitaments with their apputences which the said Henry Lewis likewise purchased from George Thomas John situate and lying within the parish of Trelleg aforesaid and also all that messuage, tenement and farm called Llan y Nant with all lands and hereitaments thereto belonging or therewith held, situate and lying within the several parishes of Trelleg aforesaid and Lanishen in the said County of Monmouth and also all that farm lands and tenements called the Lloyne Farm and Tier y Coed doe together with the way over and through the lands late of Henry Robert junier Esquire deceased for occupying, using and enjoying the Lloyne Farm and Tier y Coed doe aforesaid and also all that little meadow in the parish of Lanishen aforesaid late in the possession of John James and also all that cottage dwelling house and garden late in the possession of George Knowles situate in the parish of Tintourne in the said County of Monmouth And also all my estate, right and title of and in all that messuage, tenement and lands with their appurtenances which the said Henry Lewis likewise purchased from John Vaughan and his wife situate in Tintourne aforesaid all which premises and every part and parcell thereof with their appurtenances were in and by the last will and testament of my late brother given and devised to me and my heirs and assigns for ever from and after the determination of the several and respective estates and interests of him the said Henry Lewis thereof respectively made and mentioned in his said will and also all those my two several messuages or dwelling houses and stable with the buildings and appurtenances thereto belonging situate in the town of Monmouth in the said County of Monmouth and now in the several tenures of Hugh Bambricke and Edmonds Hoskyns and all my estate, right, title and interest of in and to the said several messuages, lands, tenements, hereitaments and premises to hold to the said George Milbourne and John Nourse their heirs and assigns for ever upon this special trust & confidence nevertheless in them the said George Milbourne and John Nourse their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns respectively reposed that they the said George Milbourne and John Nourse or the survivor of them or their respective heirs, executors or assigns respectively shall and will with all convenient speed immediately after my decease make sale of all my said messuages, lands and premises with their apputenances for the best price that can or may be gotten for the same and shall by the monies raised by such sale and by the rents, issues and profitts of my said messuages, lands and premises in the meantime untill such sale ..? satisfy and pay all and every the debts of me the said Thomas Lewis which I shall owe at the time of my death to any person or persons whomsever and discharge my personal estate therefrom and in case any part of my said personal estate shall be exhausted in the paying out of my said debts before a sale of my said messuages, lands and premises can be made it is my will and direction that my said trustees and the survivor of them, their heirs , executors or assigns shall make good the same out of my said trust estate and if the moneys arising by the sale of my said estates shall be more than sufficient to satisfy my said debts, my will and meaning is that my said trustees shall pay the overplus to my executors herein after named to whom I give and bequeath the same provided nevertheless it is my will and meaning that it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said George Milbourne and John Nourse, their heirs, executors, admors or assigns respectively from time to time to deduct and defalk unto themselves out of the premises all such costs, charges and expences as they or any of them sustain in or about the managing or performing of the trusts of this my will or otherwise by reason thereof. And as for all the rest and residue of my goods, chattles, household stuff, ready money, jewels, plate and other stock and all other my personal estate of what kind or nature soever and wheresoever and not herein before by me bequeath I give, devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my beloved wife, her executors, admors and assigns for ever and I do constitute and appoint William Watkins of the town of Monmouth, Gentleman, to be my executor of this my last will and testament revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I the said Thomas Lewis have to this my last will and testament written on two sheets of paper to which I have subscribed my name and duly sett my hand and seal the second day of June in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and forty three - Thos: Lewis signed, sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said Thomas Lewis as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and sight and in the presence of one another subscribed our names as witnesses thereto John Bulbrick Will: Williams James Prosser
On the twenty second day of September one thousand seven hundred and forty eight administration (with the will annexed) of the goods, chattles and credits of Thomas Lewis late of the town of Monmouth in the County of Monmouth, deceased, was granted to Mary Kane (wife of Clement Kane) the natural and lawfull daughter of the said deceased being first sworn by commission duly to administer (William Watkins Esquire the sole executor named in the said will first renouncing the execution therof and Elizabeth Lewis, widow, the relict of the said deceased first also renouncing the letters of administracon (with the said will annexed) of the goods of the said deceased
