In the name of God Amen I Phillipp Jones of Treowen in the County of Monmoth, Esqr, being of sound and perfect memory (praysed be Almighty God) doe this psent seaventh day of March one thousand six hundred fifty nine make and ordaine this my last will and testament in writeing in manner and forme followinge (that is to say). First I commend my soule to my creator and redeemer and my body to be buried in Christian buriall in a decent manner at the discretion of my deare beloved wife, my executors, and overseers herein named. Item I give and bequeath towards the reparacon of my pish church of Wonastow twenty shillings and towards the reparacon of the Dingestowe twenty shillings. Item I give and bequeath to the poore of ye towne of Monmoth and the pish of Wonastow fifty shillinges a peece and also to the poore of the pishes of Dingestowe and Lanarth fifty shillinges a peece to be distributed amongst them. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my sonne Edward Jones all that messuage lands tenements and heritaments --? --? --? scituate, lyinge and beinge within? The pish of Lanvapley in the said County called Gunnys y pigge and now in the occupation of one James Thomas to have and to hold the same --? --? --? manner as the sd James Thomas now --? --? of the same, unto my said sonn Edward, his heires and assignes forever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my sonne Henry Jones all that messuage lands and tenements with the --? --? --? scituate, lyinge and beinge within the --? --? --? in the said County now in the occupation of the said James Thomas which --? --? --? of --? pounds --? --? --? messuages lands and tenements with thappurtenances scituate, lyinge and beinge within the --? --? --? occupation of one Richard Watkin within the --? by lease from me at the rent of twenty eight pounds --? unto which were --? --? --? and to hould the same unto my said sonne Henry Jones, his heires and assignes forever --? said severall legacies? --? bequestes?I doe so give and bequeath unto my said sonnes in lieu of all shares and --? that they may claime of me into any coppihould lands or into any of my goods and chattells. And for their full pformence herein I give and bequeath to my beloved wife twelve of my best oxen, twelve of my best kine, my best bull, two? of my best horses or mares one halfe of all my corne and graine wch shall be growinge at my decease upon the demeane lands of Treowen and all implements of husbandrie dureing her life. And also I devise unto my said wife the use and occupation of all my household stuffe dureinge the terme of her naturall life, and after her decease I give, devise and bequeath the household stuffe to and amongst my daughters Frances, Elizabeth, Luce, Clare, Margorie and Jane equally to be divided betweene them. Item I give & devise five pounds a peece to every on of my executors herein after named to buy them a ring a peece in token of my love and for their paines to execute this my will. Item my will and meaninge is that out of the rest of my goods and chattells unbequeathed that my executors within named doe first of all pay my debts with all --? --? possible and if in case my said goods, cattell and chattells --? will not amount and be sufficient to pay my debts then my will and meaninge is and I doe hereby give, devise and bequeath unto my executors herein named the messusage lands tenements wth thappurtenances lyinge in Lannarth in the said Countie of the yearly vallue of seaven pounds wch was here to have purchased of one Charles ap John and now in the occuapcon of the said Richard Watkin to be by them? sould to pay my said debts and the overplus thereof that shall be spared --? my debts are paid I give and bequeath to and amongst my said daughters Francis, Elizabeth, Luce, Clare, Margerie and Jane equally to be divided betweene them, their executors and administrators towards part of their --? and mayntenance. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Frances so much out of the messuage mill lands and tenements with thappurtenances called Lanclowr? lyinge in the pish of Bringwin and Penros in the said County now in the occupacon of George Preese Howell, --? and Thomas Prichard as will amounte to the vallue of thirtie pounds and to have and to hould the same unto my said daughter Frances, her heires and assignes forever and the use and --? of the premisses lately? --? mentioned to the vallue of six pounds and I give, devise & bequeath unto my said daughter Jane --? --? --? same unto my said daughter Jane, her heires and assignes forever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Elizabeth --? --? --? severall --? --? of land arable meadow or pasture wth thappurtenances being --? late lands of William Howell and Richard --? and --? by me --? --? purchased of Thomas Powell and Anne his wife , William Morgan and Anne? his wife scituate, lyinge and being within the said pish of Penrose in the said County and now in the occuacon of the said James Thomas to have and to hold the same unto my said daughter Elizabeth, her heires and assignes forever. Item I give, devise & bequeath unto my said daughter Elizabeth the revercon of that messuage lands & tenement with thappurtenances lyinge in the said pish of Penrose in the said County and now in the occupacon of William Morgan, Gent, wch he holds by lease for terme of his life at the yearely rent of five shillinges to have and to hold the same unto my said daughter Elizabeth, her heires and assignes forever. I give and devise unto my said wife the new? House and garden with the appurtenances wch I --? --? lyinge in the Towne of Monmouth over against the churchyard there now in the occupacon of Doctor Palmer to hold the same unto my said wife for the terme of her naturall life and from and after her decease I give, devise & bequeath the same unto my said daughter Luce to have and to hold the same unto my said daughter Luce, her heires and assignes forever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Luce the mill and lands thereunto adioyninge called Dixtons Mill lyinge in Dixton in the accupacon of George Powell, Gent, and also one acre of meadow heretofore an orchard lyinge neare Dixtons gate now in the occupacon of one William Edwards and also one little house with the appurtenances lyinge in the Towne of Monmouth neere Wy Bridge now in ye occupacon of John David glasier, and also one other messuage tenement wth thappurtenances lyinge in the said Towne of Monmouth, now in the occupacon of Elizabeth Mason, widdow, and also one messuage and garden heretofore --? lyinge in the said Towne of Monmouth and now in the occupacon of one Morgan ap Morgan to have and to hold the said severall premisses lastly menconed unto my said daughter Luce, her heires and assignes forever. Item I give, devise & bequeath unto my said daughter Clare the messuage and garden wth the appurtenances lyinge in Monmouth neere the --house? there: three acres of meadow in Chipinham and the closes called the Crickcloses? In the pish of Monmouth, now in the accupacon of Water? --? and also all those messuages lands and tenements wth thappurtenances lyinge in Dixton aforesaid now in the occupacon of Meore? Heighton and also the little house and garden with the appurtenances lyinge in Rockfield late in the occupacon of John Weely to have & to hold the premisses lastely menconed unto my said daughter Clare, her heires & assignes forever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Margerie two parts of all that messuage lands and tenements wth the appurtences late John Thomas George lyinge in the said pish of Wonastow in the said County and now in the occupacon of one Humphry Grotes? And also one messuage or tenement wth the appurtenances in the said Towne of Monmouth now in the occupacon of Richard Williams and also three acres of meadow lyinge in Dixton aforesaid in the occupacon of the said Richard Williams, to have and to hold the same unto my said daughter Margerie, her heires & assignes forever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Jane all that messuage or tenement wth thappurtenances called the Great House together with an the lands arable meadowe pasture and woods thereunto belongeing scituate lyinge and being within the said pish of Rockfield in the said County now in the occupacon of one Lewis Jones and also --? three closes or --? of land arrable with thappurtenances lyinge in Dixton aforesaid in the said County and now in the occupacon of one John Bannester to have and to hold the said premisses lastely menconed unto my said daughter Jane, her heires and assignes forever. Provided alwayes and my will and meaninge is that if my sd sonn Edward Jones and Henry Jones, or either of them shall challenge or demande any pt of the coppyhold lands or tenements which I shall --? --? --? or refuse upon request is or? under by my --? sonne William Jones or his his heires --? --? --? of the said coppyhold lands that then his legacie of lands by me before bequeathed unto him or them so challingeing, demanding or --? --? aforesaid shall be utterly void and of none effect and if my said sonnes Edward and Henry or either of them shall happen to dye without issue of their bodyes lawfully begotten then my will is that --? or their part of the said lands before bequeathed unto him or them so dyinge --? --? remayne and continue unto my next heires forever. Item my will and meaninge is that if my sd daughter or any of them shall happen to dye or decease before shee or they attaine to the age of one and twenty yeares or be unmarried or otherwise by? me? in my lifetime sufficiently provided for --? or --? that then her or their part of the said land and goods so dyinge as aforesaid shall remaine unto the survivors or survivor of my said daughters equally to be divided betweene them --? also that if my said sonne William Jones or his heires shall and will within three yeares next after my decease satisfie and pay unto my said daughters either or any of them the cleere? yearely vallue of fourteene yeares purchase for her or them --? the lands and tenements by me before bequeathed then my will and meaninge is that my said eldest sonne or his heires shall have the same payinge as aforesaid in the meane time my said daughters are to have, receive and take the rents, issues and proffitts of the said premisses by me unto them --? bequeath. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Winifred fifty pounds of lawful monie of England to be and unto her within one yeare next after my decease. And of this my last will and testament I doe hereby nominate, appointe and declare my welbeloved kinsmen & friends Thomas Morgan of Lansore and Charles Hughes of Trostrey in the said County of Monmouth, Esqr, to be executors of this my last will and testament. And I doe --? my brother in law Henry Morgan of Caerlion, Gent, and my said elder sonne and heire William Jones --? overseers of this my will to see the same fullfilled, and I doe hereby renounce and revoake all former wills, legacies and bequests by me made willed or bequeathed. This will was proved at London before the Judges for probate of wills and grantinge administrations the first? day of --? in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred and sixty by the oathes of Thomas Morgan and Charles Hughes Esqr joynt executors in this said will to whom was committed administration of all and singular the goods, chattells and debts of the sd deceased they being first sworne by commission truly to administer.
