                In the name of God Amen I John Hughes of the Reddings within the parish of Llangwm Isha in the County of Monmouth yeoman being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding praised be God for the same do make and declare my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) I give and bequeath unto my sister Susan Lewis and unto my nephews John Lewis and William Davis the sum of one shilling each.  I give and devise unto my dear wife Mary Hughes all that my messuage or tenement orchards and garden wherein I now live and which was given me by my late father William Hughes and commonly called and known by the name of Yr Gwalod y cae Vedow with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in the parish of Langwm Isha aforesaid to hold unto my said wife Mary Hughes her heirs and assigns for ever.  I also give and devise unto my said wife Mary Hughes all that messuage or tenement garden and orchard with their appurtenances situate in the parish of Langeview in the said County of Monmouth which I some years since purchased to me and my said wife of and from Francis Williams deceased, and now in the tenure or occupation of Frances Roberts widow to hold unto my said wife Mary Hughes her heirs and assigns for ever.  I likewise give and devise unto my said wife Mary Hughes all that messuage or tenement kiln house barn and twelve several closes or parcels of land arable meadow pasture woods and underwoods with the appurtenances containing by estimation fifty acres (be the same more or less) situate in the parish of Goytrey in the said County of Monmouth.  And also all that messuage or tenement barn and six closes or parcels of arable meadow and pasture situate in the said parish of Goytrey and known by the name of Park bach.  And also all that parcel of land called Caer Bushes situate in Goytrey aforesaid.  All which said last mentioned premises are now in the possession or occupation of Thomas Jenkins as tenant thereof to hold unto my said wife Mary Hughes her heirs and assigns for ever.  All the rest and residue of my money securities for money goods chattels estate and effects of what nature or kind soever and which I shall die possessed of after payment of my just debts funeral expences and the expence of proving this my Will I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife.  And I do make nominate constitute and appoint my said wife sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all and every other Will and Wills at any time heretofore by me made and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament.  In witness whereof I the said John Hughes have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six.  The mark of the said testator John (X) Hughes

 

Signed sealed declared and published by the above named John Hughes as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.  The mark of William (X) Nicholas of Usk, shop keeper;  The mark of John Roberts of Langeview, carpenter;  Jno Shepard, Clerk to Mr Jones, Usk

 

13th of October 1807.  Mary Hughes widow the relict and sole executrix named in the within will was sworn to the truth thereof and to the faithful performance of the same and that the goods chattles and credits of the deceased do not amount in value to the sum of two hundred pounds.  Before me Benj Hall, Chancellor

 

Proved at Abergavenny before the Chancellor on the 13 day of October 1807 on the oath of the widow and sole executrix
