Be it remembered that I Roger Jenkin of ye parish of Lanvrechva in the County of Monmouth husbandman being through mercy in good health of body & perfect memory & understanding & considering with my self ye fralty of all flesh & ye uncertainty of ye time of death do make & ordain this my last will & testament in manner & form following (viz) First & principally I commit my soul unto Almighty God my maker & redeemer my body I order to be buried amongst the people called Quakers & as concerning the disposal of all such temporal estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give & devise thereof as followeth. Imprimis I give & devise unto my beloved wife Ciss Jenkin during her natural life (to prevent all cavils disputes contests & law suits about the validity of her jointure & for the further securing & confirming of her right & title to the same) all that tenement & parcel of lands with their appurtenances called Tir Griffith Hoddwch situate lying & being within the parish of Lanvrechva & after her decease unto my neeces Amy Jenkin & Martha Jenkin my brothers daughters & their right heirs for ever. Item I give & devise all those parcels of called Caia newydd, Cae gwas y Pie, Ddicoedfa & Gwern y Rid ycha & a barn thereon in ye sd pish of Lanvrechva & ye rents issues & profits thereof unto my sd beloved wife during her natural life & after her decease unto my neeces Amy Jenkin & Martha Jenkin my brothers daughters & their right heirs for ever excepting & reserving all the wood & timber for my neeces & their heirs for ever yet subject & liable to a rent charge of three pounds yearly to my sister Margaret ye widow & relict of Thomas Richard late deceased during her natural life without any defaleation? or abatement whatever & for the due payment thereof I will that my sd wife neeces & their heirs pay unto my sd sister ye sum of fifteen shillings quarterly as long as my sd sister liveth. Item I give & bequeath unto my sd wife two cows one horse & one pig & occupation of all my houshould stuff during her natural life & after her decease to my executors hereafter named. Item I give & bequeath unto my sd wife all my corn growing & severed & all my hay & the rents issues and profits of the farm whereon I now live on condition she takes to ye sd farm after my decease & holds to ye years end & pays & discharges ye rent thereof or such part & parcels thereof as shall be due & owing to ye Land Lord for the same. Item I give & bequeath unto my sd wife ye sum of twenty pounds. Item I give unto my sd wife half a score of sheep. Item I give & bequeath unto my nephews Morgan & Jenkin ye sons of Thomas Richard by my sd sister Margaret ye sum of fifteen pounds apiece. Item I unto Sarah Katherine & Margaret daughters of John William James late of Lodge by my neece Margaret ye sum of fifteen pounds to be divided equally amongst them & I will that ye same be paid to their mother & their brother to their use & if either of them die before they attain ye age of twenty one years or be married that then ye part or parts of ye decedent or decedents accrue to ye survivour or survivours of them. Item I give unto Barbara & Anne ye daughters of Evan Howel of Penllwyn Gwent in Glamorganshire ye sum of ten pounds to be equally divided between them & if either of them die before they attain the age of twenty one years or be married the ye part of ye decedent accrue to the survivour of them. Item I give & bequeath unto Mary & Ruth ye eldest & youngest daughters of John William of Lanviangel juxta Lantarnam forty shillings apiece. Item I give unto his four other daughters Margaret, Elizabeth, Ciss & Sarah ye sum of twenty shillings apiece. Item I give & bequeath unto Mary ye daughter of William John James by my neece Anne late deceased ye sum of five pounds. Item I give & bequeath unto Elis Lewis a friend of Monmouthshire, John Walter Jenkin of Panteague, David John a friend near Castle Town, & to Esther Jenkin my kinswoman, & to Isaac Morgan my neighbour ye sum of twenty shillings apiece. Item I give to my friends Evan Bevan schoolmaster of Pontymoile & Anne Thomas Rosser of Manachdy thirty shillings apiece. Item I give unto my friends Matthew Lewis & Ruth Lewis his daughter of Mamhilad, Francis Jenkin of Goytre, Ciss Thomas Rosser of Manachdy, Patrick Walter of Shirenewton, Thomas Lewis & Francis Watkin belonging to Shirenewton meeting, Evan Matthew of Neath in Glamorganshire, Cornelius Francis a mason? of Glamorganshire, Anthony Cooper of Castletown, Mary Evans near Pontymoile & unto my three cousins Charles Morgan, Elizabeth Water Jenkin and Jenkin Morgan ye sum of ten shillings apiece. Item I give unto my friends Gwenlian Wills of Lanviangel Ponty Moile, Lewis Hughs, Katherine John of Lanvrecva being in a house called Tyr Tlodion? ye sum of five shillings apiece. Item I give to Benjamin Thomas of Mamhilet, & Mary David my old maid servant, to William Edmond my nephew of Panteague for the use of his daughter ten shillings apiece. Item I give to John & Mary ye children of Thomas Evans by my sister in law Martha ye sum of five pounds to be equally divided between them. Item I give unto my neece Amy Jenkin my watch & if she die before she attain ye age of twenty one years or be married then I give my sd watch to my neece Martha Jenkin her sister. Item I give all the rest of my goods cattles & chattles unto my sd neeces Amy Jenkin & Martha Jenkin to be equally divided among them & if either of them die before they attain ye age of twenty one years or be married then I give & bequeath the same as followeth (viz) unto the above named Sarah Katherine & Margaret the daughters of John William James the sum of fifteen pounds & unto Mary the daughter of the above named William John James ye sum of ten pounds & unto John & Mary the children of Thomas Evans ye sum of ten pounds & the rest to the above named Jenkin Thomas & his children. Item I nominate constitute appoint and ordain Henry Edward late of Bedwellty my kinsman and Evan Howel of Penllwyn Gwent of Glamorganshire to be guardians to my neeces Amy Jenkin & Martha Jenkin as for & touching all my devises & bequests unto them & the lands & tenements that descend from me & I give them ye sum of forty shillings apiece in that respect & also reasonable charges for & concerning ye execution of the trust reposed in them. Item I will & order my above named trustees at the charges of my executors hereafter named to assist my wife in ye recovery of the lands & house that is in the tenure or possession of Samuel Hodges senr & in the reparation of ye same as for as half the charges. Finally I nominate constitute appoint & ordain my sd neeces Amy Jenkin & Martha Jenkin to be joint executrices of this my last will & testament revoking all other wills & testaments by me formerly made. We Henry Edward & Evan Howell the testamentary gardians of Amy Jenkin & Martha Jenkin minors ye neeces & executrixs in this will named doe solemnly sincerely & truly declare & affirm that we are dissenters comonly called Quakers and that this writeing contains the true last will and testamt of Roger Jenkin deced and that ye inventory hereunto annexed is a true & pfect inventory of all & singular ye goods, chells & creditts of the sd decest wch came to our hands possion and knowledge & that if any more of ye sd deced goods chells & creditts shall hereafter come to our hands we will add ye same to ye sd inventory and that we will well and truly administer ye sd goods chells & creditts to ye use & dureing ye monority of ye sd minors by paying the debts and legacies of ye sd deced as far as his estate thereto will extend & ye law charge us and that will render a true and just account of our admon to ye use of ye sd minors when we shall be thereunto lawfully required.
