            In the name of God Amen, I Idia Lewis wife of Thomas Lewis of the pish of Cumcarvan in the County of Monmouth being of good and perfect memory thanks be given to almighty God doe make & ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following vizt First I comend my soule to the hands of almighty God hopeing through the meritts death and passion of our saviour Jesus Christ to have free pardon & and forgiveness for all my sins and my body to be buryed in Christyan buriall according to the discression of my friends.  Imprs I give and bequeath unto my  well beloved husband Thomas Lewis one messuage or tenement with the appurtenances and all barns buildings gardens and orchards thereunto belonging and all those severall closes or parcells of land arrable meadow & pasture comonly called Gworlod Dan y Lann Cae Garrow & Caeatcock lying and being all in the parish of Clidock in the County of Hereford for and during the terme of his naturall life.  Item I give and bequeath all the said messuage lands and tenements with the appurtenances imediately after my said husband Thomas Lewis his decease unto my neece Martha Wensley and to my nephew Edmond Prichard junior to be equally enjoyed between them dureing theire naturall lives and imediately after the decease of the said Martha Wensley that her part shall be to her husband Richard Wensley dureing his naturall life and to the survivor of them both, and from & imediately after theire decease and the decease of the survivor of them, my will and meaning is that the share and parte of my said neece Martha Wensley shall be and remaine to the right and proper heires of the said Martha by her lawfully begotten for ever, and in like manner that the share and part of my said nephew Edmond Prichard shall be and remaine to the right and proper heires of the said Edmond by him lawfully to be begotten for ever.  Item my further will and meaneing is that the said Martha and the said Edmond shall each of them pay the sume of two pounds and ten shillings a peice unto my said husband Thomas Lewis towards my funerall expences and that the sume of five pounds shall be paid to the hands of my said husband Thomas Lewis the next day after my decease, and if the said Martha Wensley or the said Edmond Prichard shall refuse or neglect to pay the said sume of two pounds ten shilling a peice to my said husband upon the day above menconed, that then the share and part of the said party so refuseing or neglecting shall be and remaine to the party that shall pay according to the true intent and meaneing of this my Will.  Item I give one shilling to the party that refuses to pay the said sume of two pounds ten shillings toward my funerall expences as aforesaid.  Item I give to my nephew Joseph Bevins one shilling.  Item I give to my neece Elizabeth Prichard one shilling and one shilling to her sister Mary Prichard.   Item I nominate and apoint my neighbour George Williams of Langoven to keep this my Will in trust between the said partyes untill the said five pounds shall be paid towards my funerall as aforesaid and then to be delivered to my said neece Martha Wensley revokeing and and anulling all other Wills by me heretofore made.  In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale this twenty fourth day of July Anno: Dom 1721.   The marke of Idia (X) Lewis

Noverint universi per presents nos Richard Wensley of the town of Monmouth inComitatu Monmouth, basket maker & William Jenkins of the parish of Rader in the County of Glamorgan, gent  teneri et firmiter obligari ten pounds bone et Legalis monete Anglie solvendis eidem aut certo attornato executorbus administrators vel assign suis ad quam quidem solutionem bene et fideliter faciendam obligamus nos et utrumque nostrum per se pro toto et in solidum heredes, executors et administrators nostros firmiter per presents per presentes sigillis nostris sigillatas Date 7 August 1721

 

            The condition of this obligation is such that if Martha (wife of ye above bounden Richard Wensley) ye neece & administratrix (wth ye Will annexed) of all & singular ye goods chells & credits of Idia Lewis late ye wife of Thomas Lewis of ye pish of Cumcarvan in ye County of Monmouth & Diocess of Landaffe deced do make or cause to be made a true & pfect inven’y of all & singular ye goods, chells & credits of ye sd deced wch have or shall come to ye hands, possion or knowledge of her ye sd Martha Wensley or into ye hands & possion of any other pson or psons for her & ye same so made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into ye Reg’ty of ye Consistory Court of Landaffe at or before ye last day of February next ensuing ye date hereof & ye same goods chells & credits of ye sd deced at ye time of death ... at any time after shall come to ye hands or possion of ye sd Martha Wensley or into ye hands & possion of any other pson or psons for her  do well & truly administer according to law, and further do make or cause to be made a true & just account of her sd adcom at or before ye seaventh day of August wch shall be in ye year of our Lord 1722 and all ye rest & residue of ye sd goods chells & credits wch shall be found remaining upon ye sd adstractors account ye same being first examined & allowed of by ye Judge or Judges for ye time being of ye sd Court shall deliver & pay unto such pson or psons respectively as ye sd Judge or Judges by his or their decree or sentence shall limit & appoint, then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force & virtue.  Richard (RW) Wensley;  Wm Jenkins

Know all me by these presents that we Richard Wensley of the town of  Monmouth in the County of Monmouth, basket maker. Richard Wensley of the same town basket maker & John Rees of Landaffe in ye County of Glamorgan innkeeper are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Matthias    by divine permission Lord Bishop of Landaffe in the sum of twenty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made.We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents.  Sealed with our seals dated the 15th day of March in the year of our Lord Christ 1739/40   

            The Condition of this obligation is such that if  the above bounden Richard Wensley the elder & Richard Wensley the younger, the administrators (wth the Will annexed) of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Idia Lewis late of the parish of Cumcarvan in the County of Monmouth & Diocess of Landaffe          deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of the said Richard Wensley senr & Richard Wensley junr or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for  them  and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the Registry of the Consistory Court of Landaffe on or before the last day of June          next ensuing and the same goods chattels and credits and all other the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do well and faithfully administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts of the said deceased which did owe at  the time of her death and then the legacies contained and specified in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration so to be committed as far as goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge and further do make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of said administration when hall be thereunto lawfully required.  And all the rest and reside of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrators their accompt and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges of the said Court for the time being shall distribute and pay in such manner and form as shall be limited by the direction of the said Judge.  And lastly do at all times hereafter clearly acquit discharge and save harmless the within named Lord Bishop the said Judge and all other officers of the said Court against all persons having or pretending to have any right title or interest in the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force ant virtue.  marke of Richard (RW) Wensley;  Richard Wensley;  John Rees
