I Ann Howell of the parish of Llanover in the County of Monmouth, spinster, do make my last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, I give and devise all that my messuage or tenement and the several closes of land thereunto belonging containing by estimation fourteen customary acres or covers, and also all those several closes or parcels of land called and known by the names of Gworlod y ffynnon and Discubrah containing by estimation eighty five acres with the appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging situate in the parish of Llanover aforesaid now in my own occupation charged with the payment of the sum of two hundred and thirty pounds and the interest thereof secured thereon by way of mortgage to Michael Lewis of Abergavenny grocer and from the payment of which I hereby exonerate my personal estate and other my real estate wheresoever situate unto my faithful servant William Protheroe and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease subject and chargeable as hereinafter is mentioned I give and devise the said hereditaments and premises unto my kinswoman Elizabeth the wife of John Jonathan of the parish of Llanelly in the County of Brecon yeoman and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and after the decease of the said Elizabeth Jonathan (or after her marriage to one James Morgan late of Llanover aforesaid labourer son of Charles Morgan late of the same parish labourer if such marriage should ever take place) I give and devise the said hereditaments and premises unto and to the use of all and every the children the said Elizabeth Jonathan by the said John Jonathan to be equally divided between them if more than one as Tenants in Common in fee. And if there shall be but one such child to the use of that remaining or only child in fee I give and bequeath unto my kinswoman Jane Yorath of Abergavenny spinster the daughter of James Yorath, hallier, the sum of ten pounds to be paid her within six months next after the decease of the said William Protheroe. And I hereby charge my said messuage lands and hereditaments hereinbefore devised with the payment thereof accordingly I give and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Jonathan all my household goods and furniture of every description and all my wearing apparel (exonerated from the payment of my debts and my funeral testamentary and other expences) for her own use and benefit. I give and bequeath unto the said William Protheroe his executors and administrators all my farming stock crops and implements of husbandry and all other my personal estate of what nature or kind soever (subject nevertheless to the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expences) for his own use and benefit. I nominate and appoint the said Elizabeth Jonathan and William Protheroe executrix and executor of this which I declare to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I the said testatrix Ann Howell have hereunto set my hand the second day of February one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine. The mark of the testatrix Ann Howell.

Appeared personally William Protheroe of the parish of Lanover in the County of Monmouth, workman in husbandry, executor named in the last Will and Testament of the said Ann Howell late of Lanover aforesaid, spinster deceased, who died on the seventeenth day of April instant and made Oath that the Estate and Effects of the said deceased, for and in respect of which, a probate of the said Will is to be granted, exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a Trustee for any other person or persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any thing on account of the Debts due and owing from the said deceased, are under the Value of one hundred pounds, to the best of this Deponents knowledge, information, and belief. And he lastly made Oath that the said deceased did not die possessed of any Leasehold Estate or Estates for years, either absolute or determinable, on a life or lives to the best of this Deponents knowledge, information and belief.
